I have brought 93 XJ 600. My 1st big bike and 1st big project. It has been standing for few months, rear tyre is perished. From what I have been told it only needs new rear tyre, rear disc and brake pads for MOT. It has some rust on it , besides I dont like the colour. I am planing to strip it and give it full paint job. But before I do so I want to make sure that it is worth it. There are broken, not working and worring bits I have discovered today while cleaning the bike. I start with the small bits. CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO ENLARGEFusebox: What fuse am I missing? Fueltap: The handle is broken, I have it I will to fix it or get a replacement one. Any idea in what positon is it at the moment? Mysterious bit next to Reg/Rec: what is it? Engine: It has covered 56k miles from new (I have all MOT certificates). The engine rattles a lot when idling. Exhaust: Left one blows, it gets better as the engine warms up VIDEOAny odea what wrong with it?

I don't know what that spare bit is but as your other questions the missing fuse is the one on the left & the fuel tap is positioned under the tank hope this helps Neil

Gawd knows what that strange rusty object is. I just took a look at my 600 but its' a 98 and different reg/rec unit, but the space next to it (where your mysterious object is) is empty.
More to the point in the Haynes Manual that space shows empty on your (earlier) model too.
Could it be something left that a previous owner fitted?
I should'nt worry about it. Concentrate on what you know needs doing on the bike.

Looks as though the fuel tap is in the "Prime" position. Prime is only necessary when the bike's being started up after a long period of sitting, when the fuel has evaporated for the carbs.
You could get away without fitting a handle to it, just make a screwdriver slot in the end. Then leave it in the"On" position (arrow pointing down) and make sure you always fill up before going onto reserve (around 160 miles, depending on how you ride) - and carry a screwdriver just in case!

I dont think you are missing a fuse.
Mine has a spare slot in the fuse box so check to see if there are any contacts recessed into the hole where you think there is one missing.
