I need some new front pads for XJ900 S but not sure which ones to go for. Ive seen several listed on EBay, but dont know if any are any good. I know everyone says EBC are supposed to be good, but im not overly impressed by them. I use sintered pads all round on my bike. Has anyone used ARMSTRONG HH SINTERED PADS ? IF SO ARE THEY ANY GOOD ? Any suggestions please ? Thanks

If you're not impressed with EBC, then the Armstrong ones aren't for you - I had some in a set of calipers I bought and they were abysmal.Goldfren are similarly rubbish.I've found EBC HH pads to be pretty good for the money, but by preference would always buy Carbone Lorraine (but not the SBK compounds) SBS are good, also Bendix (but pricey) Whichever you use, I'd recommend giving your discs a light sanding before fitting - seems to work well and gets rid of any residue from the old pads.

Thanks for the info. not wanting to sound thick, but what would you use to sand the discs with ?

Just some 80 grit paper (easier and quicker using a sanding wheel on a grinder), and only do it lightly. You can get a decent cross-hatch effect with a disc if you do it clockwise round the disc using the leading edge of the grinder, then again using the trailing edge. A lot of people don't do this, but I find it useful, and it's certainly recommended by some car manufacturers

Ive found Goldfren to be OK on the D9 with Blue Spot calipers. The first set lasted 15,000 miles and I'm quite happy to really use the brakes. The original organic pads were shot in 5000 miles.
