i have a small click sound when my divvy 900 is going over bumps from the front area sounds like fork leg left ?? maybe . i have put new seals in and oil . the sound was there before the oil and seal change and is the same as before . could it be the brake pads rattling or is it the head bearings do you think ?? the sound does not happen when i compress the forks at standstill with front brake on just when i'm riding it .. thanks dave ..........

If it doesn't happen when you compress the forks at a standstill, then the pads rattling would be the most likely. The anti-rattle spring behind the pads does get tired - you can bend it back to shape if you're worried.
Unlikely to be head bearings - that's a much more obvious clonk from - er - the steering head. Easy to check, though, with the bike on the centre stand.

ok this noise is still there i have tried to drag the brakes when going over bumps but it still does it ? if the pads where rattling surely me dragging the brakes would stop it .i think it is coming from the top area somewhere . i have even tried to hold my keys so they dont rattle around i cant find anything loose on the forks at all . one thing i do remember is that when i did the fork oil/seals one of the fork legs had a shim in the top and the other didnt? my bike is a 95 d9 i think the forks 96 on had the shims fitted? could this be my clicking noise do you think? as i have said before there is no noise when i move the forks at stand still but if i go over a pot hole or raised manhole etc it does it my mate mot's bikes and has had a feel around the front end checking head bearings and wheel bearings and he says they are fine with no movement in them? any ideas anybody please ........................

but could it be something as simple as your brake lines/cables catching the forks every now and then?
Had something similar on my D9 a while ago after I had the front end stripped down, hadn't replaced one of the cable ties/holders properly and it was just enough to let it rub, ooer mother, every now and then.

fairing screw not tight? windscreen screw not tight? ...there are so many not tight things it could be.
Start with the pad springs as when you say you could have the brakes on and the springs would still be loose maybe new pads are needed and the little silver tensioners might need a good clean out and the pads greasing...check all runs of cables and listen wether it is a plastic click or a metal click sound - a subtle difference i know so maybe try to simulate it.
I had a similar/same noise. The click did not do it when I was sitting on the bike but did it when I held it up from the side and front brake on....pushed the forks down....turned out to be pad springs...good luck searching for the elusive click....

I have had similar on previous Divvys when I was using HH sintered pads, no idea what was causing the click, but it happened under braking. I just accepted that it did it, but think it was probably the caliper moving.

Mine has blue spots and I suspect its developed a click from the front. Still there with the brakes rubbing lightly to take the pad rattle out and nothing else seems to be loose. With nearly 60K I somehow suspect its a fork bush.

Manual shows dust seal, clip,oil seal, spacer, top bush all in the top of the fork slider.
The pic also shows what looks like a bush on the end of the fork leg the leg is labelled as one item.
I've never had my forks apart so cant help with tips for the job. Oh yes apart from loosen the top triple clamp but leave the bottom bolted tight or you will never get the top plug out of the fork leg

Are you a perfectionist, Kawasakiinit? Finding where funny noises are coming from from the front end of a Divvy can be a right pain. I spent ages looking for something similar on mine. These days and with a cracked screen and loose headlamp on my Divvy that's done 120k I just give up and accept funny noises

My post above might have sounded a bit over critical.
There is nothing wrong with being a perfectionist and noises from the fairing can be very annoying. But they can be so hard to find and one can only really look for them whilst riding which means taking ones attention off the road slightly.
My bike has terrible fairing buzz at 3.5k and hides funny noises.

Funny noises that sound as if they're coming from the front may not be coming from the front!I messed around for ages, and checked and tightened everything at the front. It went away when I refixed the panel above the tail light on my D6! Charlie

OK I think Charlietbird has a good point. The noise could be coming from behind so check what you have been eating for the last few days and look backwards whilst riding at anything loose on the back! ;D ;D

have you checked your down pipes - if one of the outer skins is working lose that might be the problem....that was my annoying sound just before Christmas.

your 4 down pipes that come out of the cylinder ports down into the breakout box under the bike are double skinned. Basically outside is blinged up stainless steel for the looks and then the inside tube which carries the exhaust fumes is the working tube never seen (my laymans decription could probably be bettered by someone who knows better with the lingo...)
My outer skin on my roadside outer exhaust downpipe basicaly rusted off from the inner skin at the cylinder head gasket (the top). I had a vibration for a few months running up to just before Christmas then the vibration stopped - BRILLIANT but I then aquired a click as the top of the outer skin had completly rusted through and was basicaly loose and could be moved freely around the inner tubing (which was basically still sound.)
check for play where the gaskets are held on at the tops...if no play then it aint them...

Head bearings.
Even if someone has given them a good check, u can't exert the amount of force that going over bumps does using bare hands.
Only way to check them is to get at em.
Alternatively, nip em up or at least check the torque.

I had a noise I was convinced was coming from the front when going over bumps.
It turned out to be one of the metal plates covering the ends of the swingarm that had become loose

check for play first. bike on stand, thumb on top or bottom of head stock where bearing is, get mate to rock front end back and fore. you will detect any movement quickly. if there is significant movement, you can tighten the bearings but only as long as the front wheel falls left or right on its own weight. to adjust the bearings, see haynes manual. if you aint got one, someone can run you through the process via this thread.
