Failed to fit the Givi racks which I salvaged from my 1995 bike onto my new 1999 bike. In the re-design, Yamaha seem to have changed the relative positions of the mounting points. I will have to get some brackets made to compensate. Can anyone recommend an engineering workshop in the Worcester/Cheltenham/Gloucester/Hereford area?
Succeeded in fitting heated grips and a strap on tank bag. By the time I finished, it was dark and I froze to the tank every time that I touched it.

I made my own rack from 5/8" OD steel tube bent with a plumbers pipe bender. Its turned out neater than the Givi but uses Givi latches etc so takes their cases.

Renntec racks are the same for both bikes, but have a big thick plate with various holes in it to relocate a little down. You should be able to do the same, just get a nice thick bit of galvy and a drill and saw, and go to work.

Thanks for the comments.
CD - that sounds interesting, but I don't have the pipe bending skills or the tools. I guess that you also needed some welding?
Amorti - I just had a look at the Renntec website, and it looks as though they only do top box racks. I want the panniers as well. It also looks as though their rack uses different mounting points to the Givi rack. The Renntac seems to use the rear mudguard mounting point and the triangular bracket that projects down from the main frame tube. The Givi uses that triangle, but it also uses the exhaust/footpeg bracket and then there is a rawlplug-type thing that goes into the end of the frame tube and which has a substantial bracket hanging off it.
A few years ago I needed to raise the racks a few inches to stop an aftermarket exhaust melting the bottom of the panniers. I made some bracket templates out of MDF, and then had an engineering workshop cut them out of steel plate about 5mm thick. I probably did about 30k miles with those, so I am confident that I can design similar pieces to compensate for the differences between the two bikes.

Can't help you with side-box racking, I didn't need them.

Will be staying firmly garaged and covered until the bloody snow up my way is gone.

I had to do some welding, but the 5/8" OD tubes pipes fitted a plumbers bending tool and the material was cheap enough to have a play about. They could also have been brazed using a good quality plumbers blowlamp. Backing sleeves were short bits of 1/2" OD tube. I used Givi spares for the case mounting lugs and lock blocks. Next job will be to replace the mono rack with a slimmer tube rack with the Givi top plate on top.

Started it the other day and topped up the oil. With any luck I will be back on it to get to work tomorrow after a week off. Just one week is enough to piss me off, getting to work there and back takes about about 2.5 hours longer and £5 extra by train!

I'll just tidy up that front brake, as it's starting to bind. Oh, is that damping oil all up the fork leg? Great. What's that? Brake seals also beginning to pop out the grooves? T'rific. I've done them myself so can't be more than 2 years / 20k ago. Sigh

Did that fork seal last weekend, fzr wheel Friday, washed it today for th first time in months. Remarkably good finish for a budget bike !
The plug to the sideligt came off in my hand in a puff of green smoke. Turns out it wasn't the bulb then. Also turns out the plug is the same as a Kyosho battery pack connector, £2 each side from maplin which was an absolute bonus compared to what o thought which was unobtanium yam specific part.

(Yesterday) MOTd and passed finally ! Rear brake light was sticking on with front brake a bit but the proper helpful chap from Ride-On Yamaha Glasgow fiddled it and got it to work ! A reet helpful bunch over there. Taxed yesterday so will be back on next week gladly cutting through the Glescae traffic at work in no time. Tone

Got the carbs from my project D6 on the bench. Cleaned them best I could with a spray cleaner, fuse wire for poking and a 12V compressor connected to a spare battery. I ought to buy a proper compressor really but the cost is quite off-putting when you consider how often it's used. Last week sorted the rear brake caliper, that's back on the bike and ready for bleeding Oh the joys of Doer Uppering ;D

After serving me faithfully through The winter I decided my 92 600s deserved some much needed tlc.
So the last couple of evenings have been spent fitting the following.
New front disc, pads and caliper overhaul. Rear pads and caliper overhaul. New chain and sprockets. Oil and filter. New air filter. Lots and lots and lots of cleaning.
MOT booked for tomorrow.
I got My Divvy of Ebay for £450 last July to use as a cheap commuter into the smoke every day. It now has 44,000 miles showing and uses no oil between 4,000 mile changes and has not missed a beat since I got it.
I now intend to keep it for as long as possible, so next on the list is new set of plugs, carb balance, valve clearance and new shock absorber.

Refitted the de-gunged carbs to the bike and started it, ran ok if a little lumpily. It needs the carbs balanced and the TPS adjusted. Which brings me to a question: What tool is needed for TPS adjustment? To undo the housing, it looks a decidedly odd female fitting? And....Has anyone experienced a whistling petrol tank The bluddy petrol tank whistles. Like that high pitched whistle you get in your ears sometimes! Weird or what. Apart from that the refurb is going well ;D

Seems quite far apart bike wise but i had a whisle noise on my petty tank on my 125cc it turned out that the tank breather had clogged so as the fuel was used by the engine and air tryed to take its place in the tank it was seeping past the rubber seal on the top filler cap as it couldnt get in through the pipe. but i dont know how the divvy tank is set up so just an idea.

Bit on the bullet and bought an air compressor from Machine Mart today. Although I have the engine running reasonably well, especially after adjusting the TPS, I am not entirely convinced I have cleared all the gum from the jets. So. In for a penny....Nice little unit, tucks under my work-bench out the way. So I will take the carbs off one more (3rd ) time and give them a good blow through with 100psi. That should sort it. Although considering the bike had not run for a year when I bought it, it sounds quite good. I am encouraged. ;D

I think our friend from Moreton in the Marsh is close to the answer of The Whistling Petrol Tank. If I open the filler cap it stops.
