I've seen some 100w H4 bulbs advertised on ebay for the D9. ( 140308820206)
Now std. seem to be 60/55w.
Would there be any problems in fitting this higher wattage bulbs? I presume they would be hotter but could they improve the awful lighting on the D9?

Throw out more light yes, but I've read elsewhere that long term it may cause the wiring to over heat slightly. Long term this may cause the wire to fracture.
You might be better with high performance bulbs of the std, wattage.
i did, and it made an improvement, not vast, but better.
Make sure that your ligh is adjusted correctly..................perhaps.

handling double the current I'd expect the switches to get burned out. You could fit a relay, but the gennie might struggle.
I've not fitted one but and HID kit makes more sense 1/2 the power and 3x the light. There are various threads on the subject.

Rot, I've had 80/100w bulbs in my for three years, much better lights and no problems

on my rt, which is simmilarly endowed with a carp light as standard, I fitted a 50w H4-3 HID 4300k, run through a relay, makes a standard 55w halogen look like a sidelight, was even thinking of replacing the r65 with a 35w one, just thinking mind you, unlikely to ever be out on it in the dark ;D

Well I ordered them & the old bulb blew same day they arrived.
I've put one in, they are H4 12v 100/90W.
Now before I use it in anger , as I'm useless with electrics, is it likely to blow the system?

You shouldn't blow the whole system. It's just possible you may need to uprate the headlamp fuse, but it should be OK. If it's going to blow it'll probably go on the changeover from dip to high beam (or vice-versa).
On the basis that you're only adding an extra 40 watts, that's equivalent to say a pair of heated grips or similar, so it shouldn't put too much load on the system as a whole. Of course, if you already have every conceivable electrical gadget, you may need to check that the generator is still capable of delivering enough amps to keep the battery up. If not, you'll have to rethink your priorities.
