Don't know how this would affect you people overseas but I recently disconnected the pollution gear off the '94 model I recently bought. Went for a good ride last week (about 700Ks), all types of roads ranging from expressways to peak hour city traffic. Bike averaged just over 17km/litre economy (bit over 60mpg) & the extra power from the engine actually being able to breathe is noticeable

I disconneted the exhaust air injection kit from my Divvie 900 (what a huge load of stuff there was). But it made zero difference to the fuel consumption. I'm not feeling even slightly guilty because it only diluted the gases to get it though emission rules. The total emissions per mile haven't changed.

I'm only guessing on this as I have no idea what the consumption was previously although I've never had economy as good as this in over 40 years of fooling with bikes (plenty of room under the fairing when you throw this stuff too.)

By the way, that's 60 miles per US gallon, i.e. about 50 per Imp gallon, which is about average for a D9 I'd say.

I put aluminium caps (sealed with silicone) over the air injection tubes in the cylinder heads and junked all the connecting gubbins under the fairing and capped off the airbox feed. There is no connection to the carbs.
The bike gets about 45mpg (imperial) at best, but I do cover a lot of M-way mileage. I'm sure with a pillion over A roads it would go over 50mpg.

I sealed them off the slack way - left the tubes running up under the fairing & plugged the rubber hoses with cut off bolts. I'll eventually get around to taking the tubes off the engine although as it is now, the engine still looks "stock"

Did you notice any difference in handling with a little less weight over the front wheel?

It's not that heavy, but the clacking from the pollution system valve gear has gone. Now its only the drone of vibrating fairing plastic. :-(
Another way might be to silicone suitable bolts into the little air stacks. Certainly a cheap option.

Is that what that horrible noise is, the pollution gear?
Is it a noise that can be heard at idle, sort of "hunts" a bit?

Mine also hunts and did the same when after the carbs were balanced. Its also slow ticking over until really warm and then its a bit fast. I learned to live with it - character I guess.
Forgot to say earlier - The pollution gear does have a carb connection. The RH carb manifold has a vacuum connecting pip that has to be plugged/capped.
