Just had mine serviced at a cost.
However I'm determined to do the basic servicing myself from now on.
Obviously I would need air filter, oil filter, oil semi synthetic & spark plugs.
Is there anything else for a basic service? All discs & pads replaced recently & hoses.
Would I need to buy OEM stuff or best to look around for bargains? How often should you service, I have the handbook but I'd like your best advice.
1997 model 19k on clock.
Sits back & waits.

Do you have a haynes manual?
I can let you have one next time we meet, maybe Lincs run?

I run my spark plugs until the fuel consumption looks like it's suffering. The last ones did well over 10,000 miles. The only thing is to be VERY careful when fitting them as its all too easy to get the middle ones cross-threaded - they sit at a "funny" angle. Spark plugs should spin in by hand never use the spanner handle until they are ready to tighten up.

I 'think' the service interval is 4000 miles ( well is for the D6 ) Air filter, if looks clean and not ripped, 'should' last longer than the 4000 mile sevice interval... often last two years, depends on usage and conditions used in ! Oil and filter at 4000, valve/shims adjustments at major service , but can't remember intervals ( could be 24000) Oil 10 w 40 semi and mineral (fully synth, some think affects clutch slip!) shaft oil levels Bet spark plugs could last for years, cars do 30k on them ! lube cables, check pads regular....Tyres for wear and tear.. Oh and of course lube and adjust the chain ;D

That's about it, though I've used full synth 5-40 without any problems. But I got 20 litres for £1 a bottle. I'm now on semi as there's really no need for the full monty. Regarding the plugs, Divvie's revs more than most cars and the plugs waste every other spark so 12K per set is about right.
I use the Goldfren sintered brake pads. They last 2 to 3 times longer than "normal" pads, give better stopping and even allowing for faster disc wear they'll still save money overall.

A little tip to help you not cross thread the middle plugs- cut a short length of hosepipe that fits the top of the plugs, (not too tightly), then put the plugs in holding the pipe. If you're cross threading the pipe will slip before you do any damage to the threads.
