Has anyone fitted Oxford Heated grips ? Anything I should look out for before I undertake this epic. In particular I want to wire it so that the switch only works when the ignition is on....any ideas?

Hi Colin, Good to see you back on here again! Wouldn't have thought that a fellow survivor of Warriston in the 70's would be soft enough to need such a thing as heated grips ; but here is a link to an article on the Fazer owners club site that should be of some help... www.foc-u.co.uk/reviews/chrioxford.htmFitted them to my old bike (D900) a few years back but can't remember what I used as the feed from the ignition. As long as it is something that only comes on when the ignition is on.... If I remember correctly, Fiasco is the resident expert on these matters and he pointed me towards a spare connector on the fuse box (under the right hand side panel) which did the job. How's things with you? Met your brother (Ken) at a Moffat reunion a couple of years ago. Al (Alastair Crawford).

The older style Oxford grips can be wired in via a switched (regulated) supply. The newer digital ones can only be wired in via an unregulated supply direct to the battery. Alternatively give Fiasco a call, he really is the heated grips expert

Hi All Thanks all for the advice. They are new so I reckon can only be fitted with an unregulated supply direct to the battery....just concerned that some ned will switch on when i am away from the Bike. Al I have ridden two winters now with no grips but age is getting to me and fingertips are turning black (either with frostbite or nicotine....not sure which)....all those years in frozen rooms at School did me no end of good . New job so not been riding or communicating much over the last few months. Havent seen Ken for a while.....not what you would call a close knit family....more like an unravelled ball of wool really. I have a mechanic guy close by so he should be able to advise on the wiring.

Ladies & Gents, I can testify to the proficiency which is Fiasco's.....Dave 'helped' me fit Oxford Heated Grips back in the balmy days of Oct 2008 (well he did all the work and I drank the tea) and they are a boon in this weather. Thanks again Dave........Gerard.

Mine are fused directly off the battery via a relay which is switched by the ignition circuit. This makes sure there are no electrical nasties to upset the electronics and the grips wont work unless the ignition is on. Its a bit more hassle to fit but well worth the effort.
As for Oxford's controllers... IMHO they are badly thought out and will last about 1 winter before water leaking in (but having no escape) ruins the control circuit. I stripped mine down put the 'tronics in a separate box under the fuel tank and used a new metal box with a new potentiometer. All seems ok after 1/2 a winter, so I guess we'll know better some time in 2010.
