Hi everyone - new member here. I could use the benefit of your experience to solve an annoying vibration noise somewhere around the screen of my '96 900 diversion. I replaced the rubber grommits with new yamaha ones and used metal bolts to fasten it all back together again instead of the plastic easy snap yamaha items. However, I now have an annoying rattle/vibration squeak which stops if I grab the screen whilst in motion. I have put strips of draught excluder between the screen/cowling/fairing but to no avail! Any suggestions please - the noise is driving me crackers!!! Thanks in anticipation.

You could always do as I do, wear earplugs, rattle gone!

I got some washer jet pipe, split it, put it on the edge of the screen, at the corners where it rattles, and clamped that down, hey presto vibes gone.

take it off and remount it with some silicone sealant - should dampen the vibes.

The metal bolts need plastic washers. I think the std bolts are intended to snap if the screen gets thumped. But they are horribly weak and wimpy and expensive. My "screen" rattled but it turned out to the the instrument surround rubbing on the cluster face. It had worn quite a groove in the perpex instrument window. But it was only discovered and solved when I straightened the fairing subframe. I sometimes get a buzz from the top corners of the screen fixed with a little piece of sticky-back draught excluder foam. But use too much / too thick foam and the screen wont sit properly and bulges between the screws.

Ok - thanks for all your advice. I'll give each one a try one at once. Thanks again.

I find the instrument surround buzzes a little at about 2500 revs, and the screen (I have a superflip) "squeeks" at upper-legal ( ) speeds. I think it's coming from the screen edges rubbing on the fairing lips, so some cushioning should remove it.

Tonight i took the fairing and everything off. straightened the subframe ( i got off the bike thinking the sidestand was down! ) put some draught excluder at the corners of the screen, and put some fibre washers under the metal bolts holding the screen on. Now - NO RATTLE! But i have no idea which remedy worked! Do i care? No - rattle gone! Thanks for all your suggestions.

Quite probably all of them. Well done. Hope the fall-over wasn't too costly.
