Howdy I might (hopefully) be going to Southern Ireland for 5 days. Going from fishguard - Rosslare then Cork, Dingle, Limerick, Galaway then Dublin back to Holyhead. Is the ring of Kerry worth it? Heard it's busy, roads are in a state but it's meant to have great scenery? From Kenmare, round the ring and to Killarney is 90miles…how long does it take? Has anyone been to Lough Derg (north of Limerick), a chap told me it was nice but have heard no one else mention it . He also recommended seeing Dingle bay. Any info about Ireland would be a great help Tar very much Phil

I have driven from Cork through Killarny to Mckillicudies Reekes. The road ranges from good to appalling. The roads in Ireland at their best have 1.5 lanes and drivers will pull over to let you past. The same road in the space of a few miles can be down to more or less a single track. Its approx 60 miles from Cork to the Reekes and it took me approx 3.5 hours driving. I was stopped for over twenty mins whilst the Garda had a chat with a car three in front (probably his cousin). Nothing is fast in Ireland. The ring of Kerry is well woth a visit....not to be missed if you are in the area

I've heard a lot of things about the irish roads and how nothing really moves fast there! Think im going to spend most of my time on the west coast (Kerry,Dingle,Clare) but im guessing the roads in these parts may be rather slow? Any one know of any nice towns/villages to stay in around the Cork area? Tar Phil

I stayed in Courtmacsherry. Good pubs, friendly people, good views of the bay, Pubs usually do not get lively till about 10 and go on till about 3 am, live music, dont expect good bitter though. Timoleague or Brandon. Kinsale also is good.

Just got back from Ireland, having delivered the 600N to my bro' who now lives near Cork.
Travelled over Pembroke-Rosslare - nice and quiet, well stabilised boat, but prices on board are horrendous (as they are generally in Ireland itself).
It took well over 2 hours to get from Rosslare down to Cork on the N25. National speed limit is 100 kph, and most cars seemed to be doing more-or-less that - the ones that weren't were only too ready to move over - great! As it had been raining (it does that in Ireland, I'm told) I was happy to keep to 100, but at one point I was overtaken on a 3-lane stretch by a huge 4x4 towing a trailer with a Dell-Boy style Reliant 3-wheeler on it, doing well over 120!
Unfortunately I only had a couple of days riding round before I had to hand the bike over to its new owner, but I was very impressed with the scenery, both coastal and mountain, and by the general lack of aggression from other road users. I was less impressed by the state of some of the roads, particularly the not-so-major ones. In fact the battery gave up near the extreme S.W. tip of the country, I think helped on its way by the jolting over the potholes. Fortunately I was able to bump-start it and got back the 100 miles or so safely.
Incidentally, re-registering the bike was a breeze. Helpful man in the local tax office filled out the form, took some money and handed out the necessary papers. We then went to a bike shop to get a number plate - just like old times, a blank plate and some stick-on numbers! No need to produce a birth certificate and a V5 in triplicate or whatever it is these days here.
All-in-all I'd thoroughly recommend it as a beautiful bike-friendly country. Most things, except petrol, are pricier over there than in the UK, especially now the Euro has gone up against the pound. But I'll definitely be back, only next time I might try to scrounge a big trailie to use over there!
