How about we swap destination details for our foreign trips in the off-chance somebody has been before and can give advice on the areas?
This year Mags and I are thinking of having a base in Brescia and doing trips round the Italian lakes and up into the Dolomites.
Or we may decide to go to the Harz mountains and carry on to the Ore mountains.

If you get the chance Garda is worth a visit, a bit touristy and busy but we liked it. Having said that it's the only Italian lake we've been to. If you get that far i would recommend Verona. A very old city with a lot of history. The Colosseum is worth the price of entry. Although smaller than the one in Rome it's much more intact, all the seating is still there and it's still in use

Planning on the South of France, can't decide whether to cut into Spain or head through Switzerland and have a Blatt back up through Germany. Current plan is to go beginning of June after the Scottish run but nothing fixed yet. Can't get any info on the Rosyth ferry off the web so may have to trek through England to get a Ferry.
I know they were reducing the service from Rosyth last year despite the majority of ferries being full. Hope it's not cancelled as it was a good way to arrive in Europe from Scotland, rested.

OK got the Superfast website open today. £148 for bike and reclining seat Rosyth-Zeebrugge in June makes heading South for a Ferry pretty pointless.
Have to start route planning next.

Gordy Last year we stayed in San Felipe Del Benaco which is right on lake Garda we had a great time found some really great roads up in the mountains toward Lake Valentino and on to lake Idro. While it is very touristy around Garda itself the scenery is stunning, interesting castle's, medieval villages etc i loved Limone and Malcesine, Limone especially is interesting as until the early 19century it was only accessible by water loads of interbreeding the residents now have an extra protein which gives them long life! we caught the train from Desenzano to Venice as we had never been, amazing but ruined by tourists and the expense. ran out of time to get to Verona as had a broken bike for first few days and torrential rain for the last couple. though the water taxi's are really good and not that expensive. There are a few photo's on Smileys if your interested throughly recommend it Kate ;D ps not sure where we are going yet maybe Le Mans MotoGP in May then further afield later in the summer

Something I have been wondering about is whether the toll roads in Spain charge for motorbikes, and if so how much, as there seem to be booths every few miles?

Something I have been wondering about is whether the toll roads in Spain charge for motorbikes, and if so how much, as there seem to be booths every few miles? Yes, they charge. On the motorway between Malaga & Algeciras (E15 I think), there were booths every 20-25 miles, 3 in total. Cant remember personally how much they cost, as Jen on pillion made the payments but she reckons about 3-4 Euros each time. These are the only ones I came across between north & south spain. There's roads alongside the motorways which are basically just as good though so you might want to try them. They deviate through towns or roundabouts at times but otherwise follow the same route. Hope this helps. Colin.

Thanks for the replys ,the stretch of road that I had seen them on was the road from gerona airport to barcelona(about 50 or 60 miles),which is probly the main road from France as the sign before the airport cut off says:France 60km.Since they charge bikes I would probly try and bimble along the smaller roads then, unless in a hurry to get to digs somewhere.

Last week in June, we're off to a tiny place called Le Pin in the Loire Atlantique in France. From there, exploring Brittany etc. Staying at a place run by some Brits, so at least they'll speak our language. Looks a lovely place. www.la-janais.comTrev & Sue
