I'm new to the forum - so apologies if this has been well covered (but I haven't seen too much detail anywhere....) at 5'7" in me socks, find the bike too high to get both feet down properly - so am considering buying a lowering kit (shelovesbikes ~£250). Anyone done this, got any views/comments?

By the way, Griff - I have some longer dog bones if you PM me your address. If you're not too far from me I'll come over & fit them with you. Should lower the seat about an inch, unless HRH tells me it's more or less than that ;-).

At 5" 6" I could do with lowering my 900 too, I've had the bike since May 2007 and always struggled a bit to get a foot flat on the ground, yesterday the dreaded happened , I put my foot down and couldn't find the floor, over she went, bent the brake lever and put a nice dent in the silencer, luckily engine bars saved everything else. Having searched the net the only place I can find that supplies anything is as follows - Hyperpro Lowering Kit - sold for £85 inc VAT and delivery and can be found athttp://www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=406121 If anyone can recommend of a cheaper place please let me know. I'm also trying find somewhere online that supplies genuine Yamaha parts, can anyone recommend. Regards Geoff

Regards Geoff lowering a divvie 900 is easy, you need some 6mmx30 steel bar, and a 12mm drill, then you replace the "dog bones" with ones slightly longer hole centers, 10mm will lower the rear by 25mm, 5mm will lower it by 12.5mm, the front forks are loosened and the stanchons slid through to match the lower rear, total cost, less than £5

if it is for a 600, there is a guy on ukgser, selling a kit for that model, for £50+ delivery, if you send me your email, ill PM him it, as only members can PM or view the "for sale and wanted"and that means a subscription.

Trev,
maybe I could dig out my old 70's platform shoes, they were raised about 4", I'd look a bit of a twerp though, still it beats dropping the bike

I got used to the 900 and I can only get one foot down comfortably. It's that heavy that I doubt I could stop it going down even if I could get both feet down flat. I like the ground clearance as it is and would not want it reduced so I live with putting my right foot down first (left foot too likely to drop into a drain cover or nasty road camber).
