Looked in the manual, Hypoid 90 GL4. My BMW 1150 GS can use straight 90 or 80/90, however the spec. is for GL5. Yesterday I bought a gallon of the GL5 spec, Now it seems that I'll have to get some GL4, my garage will end up looking like the oil aisle at Halfords I've had a search on the 'net, they don't appear to be compatible. What grade do you lot put in yours?

What grade of motor oil should I use on my D9. An on-line manual recommended 20w40, by my local bike shop recommended 10w40. any suggestions. Cheers Dynobrian

Cheers, I used the GL5 in the FD. I looked through my Dutch owners manual, looked to be OK to use it. Tried for a translation on "Babel" & it agreed with what I thought it said. Oil was a horrble shade of milk chocolate, probably hadn't been done for ages. Oil cost me £14 for a gallon, improvement on the last time I bought 2, 1 litre bottles of straight 90, at about £6 odd each

I couldnt get hypoid 90 so used hypoid 80. Winter is coming so going a little bit lighter should be ok. Surprised how little oil it needed.
