From: Big Richard Sent: 25/01/2003 Just to point out to new owners that the Yamaha Owners Manual and Workshop manual and the Haynes workshop manual ARE WRONG in describing how to adjust the headlamp alignment, at least on my 1988 model. They have the screw positions and directions reversed. Looking from behind the lamp unit, the ball post pivot for the reflector shell is in the bottom right position and the reflector shell is supported on two other screw adjusters, top right and bottom left, which rotate in the headlamp body. Their other ends screw into the reflector shell to move it in or out Adjustment is by moving the complete shell around the pivot point. Pivoting the beam down is done by turning the shaft knob (positioned bottom right) clockwise (seen from below) which makes the top-right screw turn anticlockwise, so pushing the reflector shell top and making the beam go down. Beam up is the opposite. The cross-head screw bottom left is fixed screwed in (clockwise) to make the beam go left and anticlockwise to go right. Hope this is some help. I have a power supply fitted for heated gloves and NonFango luggage Fuel consumption averages 50 mpg on longer runs

Usually the left/right for different countries is done by different reflectors in the headlamp unit. My FJR has continental units, so to pass the MOT here I had to tape off part of the headlamp cover. I think you'll have to source a continental headlamp unit. There is a very good Netherlands Divvy club, maybe they could help. I very much doubt if you could do this by lamp alignment.

My bike is a Dutch import, and it has to have the beam masked off. Where abouts are you? If local ish, perhaps we could swop lights? At the mo' mine is off the road, as I'm waiting on a second hand caliper. I'm on the sough coast, eastleigh.
Misread that... you're already there aren't you?

Hi Max 900
Divvy or Harley or both ?
Tell me more about French run - sounds interesting !
Would H/Lamp swap be for you or for Eliminator ?
Could be very cheap (i.e FREE) way for us both to get correct H/Lamps
Look forward to hearing from you !

I'm not going on the French run, I live just outside Southampton. How long would it take aproximately to remove the headlamp, and my guess is that it is huge, when considered as luggage on a touring holiday. So this will probably die a death. ? Might be easier to post them?

Might be easier to post them? i wouldn't have thought it would take very long to remove the headlamp from the fairing, you have got a point on the size though if the bike is fully loaded but the French trip is only 4 days so most folks wont need to much luggage especially if they've got hard luggage and no passenger then the back seat will be empty ;D also a lot of members who are going to France are going via Portsmouth i think so you could meet them there and its not far the other side to arromanche to carry the light the other question is how long you can be without a headlight(either of you) as for posting then that sounds like a viable alternative i would guess around £10/£15 to post it to France and should only take a few days to arrive Max.......

Hi Eliminator
The French run is too far for me & couldn't meet dates anyway. Would you still wish to do swap ? Later in the year would suite me - can't do without bike at moment & can't ride without headlamp - dipped beam required even in daylight over here.
Best regards
