Anyone got a measurement for the carb float setting the haynes info is a bit sparse, I can't see the point of putting them all back together to do a tube level test....only to take them apart again if not set correctly.

From memory, 12mm from the top of the float to the base (where the gasket sits) of the carbs. Unless anyone recalls differently.
I've never had to actually adjust any of mine on my D9's. Do the tube level test once they are together though.

TBF, I’ve had all the other parts of D9 carbs in bits, just not had to adjust float heights. JTB, are you currently roadworthy? Ain’t seen you on here recently so it’s nice to hear from you even if it is to castigate me for my sins 😥.

The biggest issue on my 900 carbs was the choke mechanism seizing up and sticking choke plungers. Float levels were always fine.

Nice post Martin and very much in the spirit of this club. Mine was not so much so. I would like to apologise to Walrus for the short thread hijack.
