Have been summoned to collect my phone from my new company tomorrow, and it's apparently a Blackberry jobby. They suggested I pick it up so I can work out how it works between now and Monday. Anyone use one? are they as complicated as they sound to my non techy brain? I gather I can copy e-mail to the device, is this easy to set up ? Ta Muchly Dave ;D

Never had one, and don't ever want one! I've seen people who have them - they can become addictive (they're not called Crackberries for nothing), and they also can mean you become tied to the company and at their beck and call 24/7.

Indeed they do - but you need the willpower to actually use it for it to have any use. ;D

A few people at work have them, even though I work for a large scandanavian telecomms company ! !
As max says, it a mini computer with phone bits on...they are difficult to use, cos they were designed for the yanks and you know how thick they can be at times.

Dave was having problems with the technical aspect of the phone last night. Well, I say 'of the phone' but it was more a case of he could not open the box!

Switched it on this morning, had a quick look, switched it off again and went for a 125 mile hoon to contemplate it !!
It's still off !

Here's a question....do you really need it to do your job?
I have something similar that i do use for work, but in order to get the best out of these things you need to be able to sync it at home and work, and use it personally. If not, just master how to a) switch it on b) make/receive calls c) text d) look like u know how to use it.
lets face it, 90% of people by a phone for the gadgets and just use the phone.
Personally i think they look groovy, but im a geek and work for E/// :-)

Here's a question....do you really need it to do your job? Not sure about "need it" but it certainly helps me make optimum use of my time. In my last company I always felt the need to rush back to the office after a meeting with a client to check my e-mail. You could guarentee that most of the e-mail waiting was quick questions with quick replies. I am hoping the Blackberry will allow me to stay out and visit other clients in the area I am at. As for personal use, I keep a separate personal phone, as I like to switch the work one off when I get home, and don't turn it back on until I am on the way to work next day. Clients seem to think that print companies are on call 24/7 !! As for organiser, I am a bit dickension and prefer to use a manual diary where I can scribble notes etc. As you say though, main use will be phone, but checking e-mails is a bonus. Won't send to many as it has that arrogant signature about being sent from "My Blackberry" - whoopee do !! Cheers Dave ;D

9 -5 would be lovely but doesn't quite work out that way, although it is worse for production staff.
Happy to leave the phone on until I get home, whether that be 6pm or midnight.
Wasted too much time trying to discover how everything works on this thing, from now on I will be learning real time !!
Dave ;D

Dave if it`s anything like the XDA Orbit that Chris and myself have you can switch the phone part of it of while leaving the rest on.
Oh and it will take TomTom Navigator 6 so you can have satnav with you all the time.
