1997 xj900s light problem.
intermittent rear running light, no rhyme or reason why it does it, but occasionally it will go off.
Main brake light works fine with both hand lever and foot lever.
get zero volts on the rear running light, but 12 volts on the rear brake light when tested with a volt meter.
Same with the parking light, normal beam and full beam. Parking light zero volts, main beam 12v, full beam 12v.
Hazard indicators work fine and give a 12v off and on (lol)
Reading the 97 onwards circuit diagram rear running light goes to the hazard relay.
so if the hazards are working.. cant be the relay??
Unwrapped the whole wiring loom and traced the wire back to each other, no breaks in the wire.
Bulbs are fine, both front and rear.
Cant see a lighting relay, but have found some for sale which is strange. Any ideas?

I havent been able to get my Aprilia Mille MOTd because I found two Led's broken but adding new ones with two resistors from the old on the back ones, but right side switch on they all flash, left OK.
On the Aprilia AFi site one fix recomended was a relay with adjustable voltage and resistor built in. Tracking my ordered one a week on,they are claiming they couldnt deliver so had to be picked up, no note saying where or when they tried. Apparantly it takes its main feed off the neautral warning light, (on an Ape Futura I used to own, it was off the back light.
Had a Divvy 900s running LED cruise lights no probs but think on an XJ600,I used to own the flasher unit was behind the panel with the battery too.
B electrics I had the tank lifted and after fitting a new headlight unit on my Cagiva Raptor, couldnnt find why the dip wasnt working so finished up parting with £130 (MOT inc) for Iti b wiring. Knuckle scraping to replace all 4 plugs didnt improve starting -mileage to and from last years MOT only, but found the TP o sensor was loose in its holder, probably as a result of fitting a new starter motor relay solonoid unseated it, new battery too. Starts on the button now.
on the Mille you have to take the top(nosecone )fairing off, as the indicator relay is located conveniently(not)behind the instrument panels and totally unreachable with the fairing in situ, both bikes will be up for sale as I'm downsizing
anyways best of British, hope you find the fault OK

found the issue.. broken wire at the solder joint inside the ignition barrel.
