Hi and welcome to the site. Sorry I have the 900 so can't really help. I know regulators on a lot of bikes pack up, but I am not sure of the actual symptoms. If you bought the bike from a shop, get in touch with them. If bought private, might be worth a phone call to see if they can shed any light on problem. Otherwise Google is your friend - time for a bit of research. Or a trip to your local friendly bike shop. Whatever happens - good luck and please let us know the outcome.

Hi alan and welcome 👍
If it's a 'H' reg i guess its one of the first with a single front disc. I had an 'L' reg and the reg/rec went on it, it cooked the battery 😢. They are fairly cheap and a 10 min job to change (iirc).
Once you get her sorted they are great bikes

Surely H is the old XJ600 not the Divvy.
Not sure if they have the same issues. Changing the regulator should sort your issues unless your alternator is also goosed.
Had the same with the lads Dullsville. regulator was heating up but it also took out an alternator coil. Changed both.
Same with my GS850. Changing regulator alone on my GS850 fixed it, common fault on the Suzuki.
