Hi Phil, I remember that feeling well...!!! Where to start is a big question... Presumably you have mapsource software with it and cables to connect to computer so you can download routes etc?? The fact that you have set your home as a waypoint sounds positive... presumably the gps bit shows you on the screen as a little arrow on your street... for basic navigation from there press the 'find' button and enter an address, house number and street name as a minimum, to enter the info you can only change whats highlighted in yellow, use 'enter' if you want to change by scrolling up and down and left to right with the 4 way toggel switch, when you have what you want on the line press enter again and then toggle to the next bit. Once you have number and street name in then toggle down to 'find' option on screen and press enter when its highlighted in yellow... hopefully the magic box will find the address for you and you can then select it and choose whether you want fastest/shortest route and it will then calculate route and start bossing you around! Sorry if I have been a bit basic there but not sure how much you have managed to achieve this afternoon? Where in the country are you? there may be a willing volunteer nearby who could help? Alternatively if you want to talk it through then PM me your phone number and I will give you a call... basic functions I can handle, and have just about relearnt plotting routes etc on mapsource software. Chris

I am having exactly the same trouble. I recently bought a Garmin Street Pilot 3 and am finding it impossible to use.
I thought I would find it easier if I put batteries in it and found my way around it in my living room, but I am just going round in circles.
All the time it is showing 'Seeking Satellites'. So it's gathering dust in the corner.
P*xy thing! I'll stick it on Ebay.

The manuals for these things are pants.
In order to use this thing properly, you need to use the mapsource software provided.
plan routes and waypoints on the PC, then transfer the route or waypoint to the Streetpilot.
Once thats done, go outside and wait for it to aquire a satellite fix.
Press the 'Route' button and select your route or waypoint and it will navigate you too it.
It does require a bit of 'playing' with the unit to get used to it.
Bear in mind that this unit really requires you to enter waypoint (read locations, ie where u want to go to) on the mapsource on your pc, THEN download it to the unit. This is because the unit itself is quite difficult to find places on, ie addresses, but waypoints are a lot easier to find when using it.
If you have your home location in it, go for a ride, then get it to navigate you home.... you'll get the idea

Speighty
Thanks for that. Most helpful. I too find the manual confusing. I am waiting for Apricot to send me some software that will enable me to do as you suggest and programme the waypoints in on my PC.
Then I'll have a run out and try to navigate home, I have my home address entered as a waypoint.
Thanks again. Fingers crossed.

' Map Source for Dummies ' eh? That sounds like me! My unit did come with a memory card with all of Europe covered but I need to delete the waypoints on it and restart with my data.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look at it.

Adbru
"Mapsource For Dummies" on the GS Users site is excellent. Runs to 3 volumes, 23 pages a volume!
I've printed the lot off so I can refer when I like. I've also had a play with it in the car (the Garmin!) and can now use it ok. But its awkward to stick addresses in innit!
I am now searching for a lead that connects from the Garmin to my PC USB port. Any ideas on a source?
Thanks Adbru, Stoph & Speighty for all for the assistance in getting me off the ground in this.
;D ;D
