Hey all first thread so be gentle. I recently bought my 98 diversion on ebay and was listed as a non runner unwanted project. So I thoght why not. Listing said non runner needs work. So I started by stripping down, cleanING and rebuilding carbs. They were clean as a whistle apart from clogged pilot jets. Gave them a clean and put back together. New plugs and oil and oil filter and battery went on next. New battery uncovered a new set of problems. Main fuse kept blowing. Narrowed down to carb heater relay. All the controls were wired wrong (indicators came on with the light switch main beam with indicators so on so forth) so out came the harnes. Searched entire thing for broken wires and or dodgy connections. All clean and reinstalled not sure how but all controls work as should. Now to start her up. Fresh fuel switch to prime and she burst into life after third press of the button.runs fine with no air box is enough to tell me oil cooler lines are leaking. No problem cut out bad connections and replaced with rubber hoses. Works a treat. She runs put coe filters on each carb looks good but pretty sure it's doing no good but will adress that later. Now she starts first time every time yay but wait she she stall when put init geareven with clutch in!!!read up and if a bike has been stood (found out at least ten years since last run) so clutch case off and plates removed and look pretty new (I think a lot of work went into the engine and the wire problems stopped any real progress) so cleaned the plates soaked in new oil put back in and no luck. In gear bike won't move pull in clutch and she rolls tellING me that cluck is doing its thing. Start her up and pull clutch put in gear and stalls still. Oh and the front breaks won't bleed. Had them off early on and stripped down replaced all seals and rebuilt but no matter how many times I bleed them nothing. Not really getting any real preasure out at all. So that's the story so far. Oh and stuck new grips on as the old ones had indicators in them and looked pants. Re covering the seat foam and the paint job is real bad. (The old man has just perchased a spray gun for his compressor so that's sorted that.

Welcome 🙂 You've been busy 🙂. Does it still stall if the sidestand is up?

You sound like a very patient man. Btw is it a D6 or a D9? (600 or 900)

If they are jointed brakes, ie one Banjo into a 2 way with a return valve compensator I had trouble with such on both XJ 600 and 900s, in the former case I was lucky getting lines from a parted out bike, however the easiest solution is to get twin lines direct from a twin banjo into the master cylinder. Sorry to be a bit of a prophet of doom but having fallen off my Cagiva last year and ridden on the back brake to get the broken front brake lever fixed , mainly thanks to Tigger on here, eventually as the MOT was coming up, the fitted a used pbrake master cylinder again sourced on Fleabay ( I had to get the whole unit caliper / carrier included, but she failed the test on pressure (so finished up sourcing a brand new master cylinder )retested and passed yesterday.
Clutch just sounds like the cable needs adjusting or replacing, again with the XJ when I bought the bike, the cable needed replacing, the bike came with a new one and was fine once replaced .I just had to remember the gears were a la racing pattern, ie one up. That was before the front mishmass of lines resulted in the brakes going mushey and before I could sort it out the lines it Got stolen, recovered but I more or less gave it away having lost interest .
Anyway carry on the great wolrk.

Update time. Found side stand connector and bridged the wires and boom she went into gear sweet as a nut. Bled front breaks from calliper up and have preasure. Is it enough to pass an mot? Time will tell. I bought replacement shock that fitted well was slightly longer than old one but it's adjust ment was easier.so put it on seven as I'm a tad tubby. Sat on and it and it sat on the tyre again the same as last time. I hope it's just another duff unit but not sure if there is any other way to adjust the suspension. I can't be to heavyas my friends 98 ninja took me and him easy!!! So now I need another unit and need to find how to wire up the tachometer. Fun times!!!!
