Hi all ..
My names Lee and i live in cornwall for the last 25yr + .
I've enjoyed riding bikes for many years, but for certain reasons i have only recently (January) past my bike test, which i been wanting to do for a very very long time. I then moved onto trying to pass my class 2 truck test and so needed some reliable transport to help do this, and get me to work etc after i had passed my test. My funds were very limited at the time , so i had to work within my limits of funds and needing something reliable, and so here i am , after purchasing a 93 xj600s (green) . Im going to be honest here, its never been a bike i have been greatly interested in, in the past, but i have been wrong before and i have been supprised how "rider friendly" this bike has been. Brought for £300 i never expected much, but after 5k miles in 5 months, 2.5k miles on the last 4 weeks alone , This bike has been a joy to ride and despite the rattles and vibrations it just gets on with its job, day after day. 55k miles on the clock now and certainly in need of some TLC, which i have been doing my best for it over the last few months with multiple jobs done on it. First i replaced the brake pads as the bike had previously been sat up in someones garage and hardly rode for some time, i also put new seal kit in front and read calipers and replaced the rear disc, so the brakes a working correctly. At the same time i gave it a service, new oil / filter / air filter and spark plugs, this helped a lot on start-up and running. I then had to paint the tank around the fuel cap as the paint had been removed, likely spilt petrol, and the adjusted the headlight as it was not adjusted correctly. While i was in and around the headlight i tried to reduce a lot of the vibration around the fairing by cutting up an old cycle innertube and placing around the bolts on the fairing which has reduced the vibrations a lot. Since i have done 5k miles since owning it i have burnt out the front tyre and just replaced yesterday, the rear i think is old and gone hard so still has a month or so life left in it. As i said i am trying my best for it as its a 24yr old bike now, i do have some issues with it, but i cant deal with everything all at once, but i just purchased new chain and sprockets and new carb rubbers as i need to remove the carbs for a good cleaning very soon and the old rubbers are badly cracked and i dare not remove them without replacements. anyways, the bikes growing on me as a great little commuter and im thinking after all this work ill be hanging onto it for the winter at least and so i thought id join the forums here and keep informed on whats what about this bike. Ok ive gone on enough for now, hehe , i am after a few spares but ill post about that in the right place etc.
For now ill just say Hi and happy riding all
