As the title says, riding home tonight and the headlight unit has fallen off! It was just flopping about inside the fairing. I just jammed some paper in between the light and fairing, I've gaffa tapped it in place for now. I just dont have the time to fix it properly as I'm at work at 6am.
Is it a big job to get it it bolted back up? Any tips of tricks for doing the job?
Cheers Folks.

I know the feeling the one on my Cagiva had a broken ring holding the lights itself in place, and last year out on a first ride the light I thought fixed flopped down onto the mudguard, and turned around to go home some bloke pointed at it, yep mate thanks I know. I put some cheap foxeyes and it recently passed its MOT in that form, but it was apparent they were next to US- as in Ireland I used it in the dark for the first time like that.I changed a late night ferry from Dublin Hollyhead for a next day overnight from Belfast to Liverpool for that reason apart from the other one would be too tiring arriving at Midnight. My efforts to use a spare Sachs Roadster one was thywarted as the bowl was too wide and wouldnt fit in the gap . Spent this afternoon modding it so as it fits. Sorry dont know what bike yours is but if anything like the faired Aprilia Futura I had, or the Mille I still do, and indeed the V Raptor I just sold also with faired in lamps it is I'm afraid a fairing off job and maybe some epoxy resin to 'glue" back what is loose or broken off?

I posted the same question on another site and got this reply, I assume the bike is an XJ900 you will need to take the screen off remove the rubber screw plugs the screen screws in to and remove the surround for the instruments you can then take the front fairing off (dont forget to unplug the headlamp and side light bulbs) and re bolt the headlight back in position, it is held in with four bolts you will possibly need to find four more bolts unless they are still lodged in there somewhere if you are lucky but if it was mine I would have no chance of them being there allow yourself an hour for the job if all goes well, good luck Keith And yes she's a 1997 XJ900 Diversion, just about run in at 69,002 miles. I sorta plan on losing some weight on here buy losing as much of the front end and just fitting a big single light, or maybe twin spots, we'll see. But I'm in no rush to do any majour work to her yet. That cagiva looks good Mate

Yes she went to Ireland and back without missing a single beat and that despite some seriosly gusty weather and from Liverpool hombe some evil torrential downpours ,I have cobbled together a quartz Halogen round lamp as the original surround was broken, that fox eye was ok for a road legal pit bike, (only mine was nicked before i fitted it) but US on a bike chucking out around 160 BHP.I am on the NW 500 so it will get some real excercise again and hopefully get some consistently better weather.
