I've recently bought a non running 1992 600 dive for £500 it had a few problems fuel pump was broken replaced this got it running ok. Neutral light didn't work found broken wire fixed it now works. There is a black red wire in the same bit of sleeving Haynes say this is for oil switch I presume this is underneath the engine but has a blue wire attached it has bullet connector on the end but isn't connected to anything & doesn't do anything when I connect to black/red any help please Daz

It's an oil level, not pressure, switch. So the light only comes on if the level is low.
I think the switch closes to earth when the level is low to bring the light on. So if you earth the black/red wire, with the ignition on, the light should illuminate. But before you do that, make certain that it is the right wire, and that you're not going to blow any fuses!
Anyway, as long as the oil level is OK in the sight glass you don't really need to worry too much about it.

I think Bob's right. From what I recall when I dismantled my divvy the oil switch just had a single wire which was blue and it shorted to ground. If your oil level is correct then if you put a multimeter between the blue wire and ground (or battery -ve)and measure resistance then it will should be open circuit (very high resistance). Therefore the light won't come on. And obviously if the wire is disconnected that's the same as having high oil level so the light won't come on.
