Back in April another couple and ourselves decided we would do a summer trip around Sardinia. So two bikes, a Honda and our old but faithful Diversion 900 were checked and prepped. Well we did it, in June, but it has been a while sorting out the pictures and details before being able to post up some comments. For those who follow Travelpod there is a report here Travelpod
Here is the written report but the pictures are on the link above. There were some 3000 to sort through and getting it down to the significant few has been difficult. In the end it was a great trip, very relaxing accommodation, no camping for these travelers!
Our route started in the south of France, we are 300kms from Toulon, and is shown here from Ajaccio Route
This does not include the days out when staying at the hotels for two nights.
Comments on Sardinia:
Concerned at the amount of rubbish left at the side of roads. Found out later it was a result of the system whereby you pay your local authority to empty your bins, but if you actually wish to have them emptied you also need to pay the people who really matter; if you get my drift.
There seemed to be many half finished houses. Was this the result of the same extra tax system, not sure, but it leaves the countryside looking abandoned and neglected.
Found the roads fun, the views great and the cafés always clean and hospitable. For some reason the toilet facilities were always very clean. Not something we have found in France so much.
Food was good, especially the lunches in the cafés and restaurants and always well priced.
On the roads the 50kms an hour sign seems to be prevalent, along with a solid white line down the middle of the road. Not very obvious what the reason was, and so we soon realised the locals took no notice what so ever and thus we did the same. Just had to be sure you kept awake for cameras, of which there were very few, and any local cabinieri who might have been lurking at the next corner.
