Hello all,
I'm looking to 'improve' my 1997 600N and was hoping someone on here may be able to help with some info.
As most of us know the 600 has that 'orrible vibe at cruising speed, well I've managed to lessen that somewhat with a stage 1 dyno kit with a pipercross filter in the standard box. Trouble is I find the bike 'wanting' when at cruising speeds so I was thinking of altering the gearing a little to lower the revs. Being chain drive plus the fact that the chain & sprockets are getting ready for a change anyways I thought I'd start here.
So questions:
1, Do I go up a tooth or two on the front.
2, Down a few teeth on the rear (if so how many)
3, Both of the above.
I've done a little research on a 4degree advancer. From what I can make out it improves the running & gives the bike a power band. Now since fitting the dyno kit my little 600 pulls really well from 2K up. As I'm looking to lower the revs at cruising speeds already plus I love the way the bike pulls at lower revs (lazy gear changer really), would the bike lose it's low down pull if I was to fit an advancer. I do sometimes have mad moment tho'
So question:
Has anyone fitted a 4degree advancer to their 600, if so what was the pro's & con's?
Suspension, the springs on my bike are 19 yrs old. Fine, they work, but the front dives badly, really badly & the rear seems to hop about when getting a move on down the lanes. I've heard that the rear shock off the new divvy is a straight swap also the 650 dragstar shock fits.
Anyone got any info on this, is it worth fitting 2nd hand?
The fork springs will also be changed to hagon progressives.
I've owned my bike for almost 4 yrs and finally got to a point where I can treat him a bit. I'm not looking to make him a R6 or a big mile muncher just to improve him.
I've had loads of people tell me "get rid of it & buy a decent bike". Believe me the thought had crossed my mind, but there's nothing newish out there I like, well maybe there is but I aint spending 10K + on a bike. Plus for what he gets used for he's perfectly adeqate.
Your knowledge is greatly appriciated.
Thanks
Karl
