Just fitted new clutch.Pads,plates and springs all ebc, After fitting clutch is slipping and there is a clatter when clutch is engaged

Hmm, the release bearing shaft is seated properly I assume? Needs the cogs on it pointing towards the rear of the bike. There's a good pictorial guide on clutch removal/reassembly here... www.xjrider.com/viewtopic.php?t=5850

you have probably done this, soaked the new friction plates in oil.

OK here goes. (With a little redness of the cheeks) It may be obvious but not mentioned anywhere I can find, except the diagram I looked at after I realised I had one less steel plate in the old stack. There is one steel plate at the back that's behind a clip. And if you do not remove it you will end up with one steel plate too many and a VERY slippy clutch. But I must get some browny points for riding 100 miles on it today
