You can use the Private Messaging (PM) system to contact any registered member of the site without needing to know their email address.
There are 3 ways you can be notified of new private messages you have received.
The first (and least noticable) is at the top of every page, a message saying: "Hey, YOURNAME, you have X messages, N are new".
you can access your messages by clicking on the 'X messages' text.
The second and probably the most useful is a popup telling you when you receive a new message.
To set the popup to appear go to the private messages system by clicking on 'X messages', then click on 'preferences' you can then select to receive popup alerts or email alerts.
The third is to receive new message notifications by email, this is good of you keep a regular eye on your email, but may fill your inbox quickly if you receive a lot of PM's. This system has not been tested by management, so we are uncertain whether you will see the message in the email or will be directed to the site.
You do need to be a registered member and logged into the site to receive, send and see private messages.
