The site originates from an MSN Forum created by Alan Lightly in late 2000, boasting almost 1000 members.
Security of the site was compromised in June 2003 and the site was rebuilt by Trev James (TJ63) in the form of another MSN Forum.
As the site grew it became difficult to manage by one person alone, so Trev chose to appoint an assistant using a voting system any existing members could be a candidates. A number of members applied for the position and it was granted, with a majority of votes, to Fiasco (Dave). The site was then maintained by both Trev and Dave until July 2005.
After much deliberation Dave decided that he needed to step back from the assistant manager position (now affectionately known as AssMan) to commit more time to his family and other activities he took part in. The assistant manager position was available again for any willing member to apply. Applicants this time were shorter on numbers, eventually reducing to 2 members who were prepared to take on the role and a decision was made for those 2 members to share the role.
The management team was, from July 2005: TJ63(Trev), Reaper (Paul) and Doofer (Jenni).
After many problems with the MSN site in early 2007 we started to look into alternatives. MSN was becoming more and more unreliable and was frustrating to use.
The management team has varied over the years with Reaper and Doofer remaining consistent until late 2012, Fiasco (Dave) and Contourmac (Mac) have made significant contirbutions to the management of the site for a number of years since we moved to Proboards.
Yamaha Diversions in its many forms has always been a friendly place, welcoming new members warmly and alway happy to catch up with members who visit less frequently. Some of our members no longer own a Diversion but have chosen to stay with the group because of the friendly and helpful atmosphere of the site.
We have had regular meetings and runs throughout the years, the most popular to date being the Derbyshire and the Postcombe runs boasting over 50 bikes. Runs are all very well organised taking into account that riders of all abilities may participate.
See the Runs & Meets board for details of up and coming events.
December 2012 sees a big change for YamahaDiversions as the management team have decided to hand the reins over to fresh blood, The work put in by all of the previous managers, TJ63, Reaper, Doofer, Fiasco and ContourMac is greatly appreciated and we hope that they will enjoy their newfound spare time.
More details will be posted about the new management team in due course, for now, if you wish to contact the forum administrators please do so by sending a PM to Admin.
After a poll on the future of the forum, it was decided to hold a vote, (open to all members), for 3 new administrators with joint responsibilities for the running of the site. The worthy winners were M40man, DahDit and Gurninman. Hopefully under their guidance the forum will continue to grow and prosper with the emphasis on a warm and friendly, (sometimes a little tongue in cheek), place for like minded people to discuss bikes/biking/anything really, and a chance to come along to a rideout.
