Hi,
My 80000 mile XJ900 Diversion has failed its MoT and I am having trouble locating the spares I need so I'd be really keen to find anyone who can help or advise.
Rear suspension lower bush.
Centre stand (I need this to take the back wheel out and do the bearings and to re do the suspension bushes)
I want to get the bike on the road. It's old and scruffy but has been 100 % reliable so cant bear the idea of scrapping it
Seat cover while I'm at it.
Please please help if you can.
By the way will a pre Diversion xj900 stand work with a diversion ?
Yours,
Jolyon

Hi and welcome. The bearing you need will probably be available at Fowlers or any Yamaha dealer - no point using used bearings. The centre stand is the biggest problem - they like rocking horse poo second hand. I think the pre Diversion 900 stand will physically fit but is not suitable - if that makes sense. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Thank you.
I am having a problem getting the bolt of the frame that the aluminium block carrying the strut and linkages connect to. Nut undone, it spins around but wull not drift out. Should it ? The diagram I have found suggests it should. but it seems to be siezed in. Am I missing a nut somewhere that is preventing it from coming out.
Yrs,

Yes it should drift out. I don't want to be a harbinger of doom but it sounds like the bearings have rusted onto the bolt. Which means that the needle bearings have probably been spinning, and have subsequently worn, the ally link arm.
I am prepared to be shot down in flames by the others though.
There seems to be a reasonable one on offer on fleabay for £50.00. Bearings alone will set you back £30.

Ye, I suspect you are right. I'll continue hitting it. Saw the one on ebay so will buy that in due course. I am seriously hitting it though ! It's an 80 000 mile bike and has been neglected. How the hell it only failed its MoT this year and not last with this problem I'll never know. The lower bush has worn through the outer race and into the aluminium.
Anyway I'll let you know how I get on. Any more hitting and the bolt will bend so if that happens I haven't a clue how to free it.
Yrs,
Jolyon

It's a b@@@@rd. Not moving. Just bending. Even a Colbalt drill will not really touch it as it is HT steel. Don't know what to do apart from scrap the bloody thing !

I have used my least favourite method of dismantling. Took out the swinging arm and took an angle grinder to the bolt shaft between the frame and aluminium casting. Frame is fine. New aluminium block needed but at least the bloody thing is out !

Hi everybody.
Yes that's the thing Groovy Grove. Unfortunately I have just bought one for 50 quid on ebay because i didn't know any different.
The swing arm bearing on the side with out the drive is badly worn. That's the one down the blind hole. So I moved it as much as I could with a tyre lever then cut it in half with a dremel. So new bearing needed too. Shock is OK. It's about the only thing that is !
Off to Fowlers tomorrow for the bearing and the bolt I had to cut in half.
Getting there slowly.
Thanks for all your advice.
Yours,
Jolly

Thank you for the link. Looks like I'll just make do with the sidestand then ! Removing the back wheel and swinging arm has been a bit of a chore without one and that was before the angle grinder and Dremel was needed !

Thank you for the link. Looks like I'll just make do with the sidestand then ! If you read that link carefully, you'll see that the old XJ900 stand isn't suitable because it requires too much grief to hoick the bike up onto the stand. So not very practical for everyday use - but maybe worth the effort for periodic use, like when you need to remove the back wheel.
