Feel free to head over to Wantage for the 2016 January Jolly on Sunday 3rd January 2016 . Meeting here for breakfast, being ready to depart at 10:30am: King Alfred's Cafe 18/20 Wallingford Street Wantage Oxon OX12 8AX This time I'll be heading into the Cotswolds for a run of around 121.2 miles. Expect to finish around 4pm (-ish) Express an interest here & if I can get round to it I'll start a proper sign-up sheet ! If there are runsters who want to arrive Saturday, then I'll be taking them to a great little pub in the middle of nowhere to sample some fine cask beers! Chippy or curry house for food. PM me if you want accommodation suggestions - a variety of sorts are available around here, from bunk house to B&B to luxury hotel. Adventurous idiots can camp in my garden. Martin.

Hey Mr M40man - according to my diary the first Sun of 2016 is the 3rd Jan, not 4th as suggested in your post. Reading the wrong page again by any chance???

This run will now be a re-run of the half-way aborted 2014 Jan Jolly - where a certain Northern sort had to call upon the services of our lost comrade Billywhizz & his trusty Volvo for a tow back to M40Mansion. I suspect no one cares really, as long as the loo stops & lunch stop are included .

I was going to ask if this was still on.
Count me in.

Was I at that one, or did I miss it? Your presence there, & that of your chosen 3-wheeled steed, made it . NB: For those who came along in 2014, The lunch stop isn't the same one as in 2014! Should anyone get lost / split-up, it is at www.rowdeycow.co.uk/index.htmlPostcode SN10 2LX. Best try not to get split-up though .

I had hoped to check that one out a while ago for a different run but never made it, so I'll be interested to see what it's like.

Having watched the forecasts for the last couple of days, I've decided to take a rain check on this one. Ride safe guys and enjoy the run. Hopefully catch you on a ride later in the year.

Having watched the forecasts for the last couple of days, I've decided to take a rain check on this one. That's a shame Rich - I've arranged with the Met Office for a rain-free period from the run start up to the end specially . Those heading this way today, have a good journey. Will see you later for a bite to eat [1]. Those coming in the morning, will see you at the cafe . [1] BobH - lost your number! If you fancy stepping out tonight give me a call or PM me.

I am sorry but I am going to have to cancel, I insured my Fazer the week leading up until Christmas, to start on January the first, I haven't had any paperwork from the insurance company, nor have I had an email, with a cover note, on checking the MID, the bike is not listed, To be fair my tardiness got the better of me, because I only checked yesterday, one of the only days when the insurance company is closed, I have spoken to them this morning, and they are looking into it, and will supposedly phone me back, but I am not convinced that it will be listed as insured today, and it's a long way to travel on the day, even if it's updated overnight, Worst thing is I have taxed it

Thanks for the offer, I did look on the Mid site around 12.20am this morning, thinking that I could probably get there in time, if I left about 4.30 am, but it was still not on, woke up this morning and tried again, and it's now on, If we still had the almera with the tow bar on the road, I would have trailered it down, alas it ran out of tax and insurance, at the end of the year, and it's replacement doesn't arrive until next Friday, and it's replacement has no towbar

Back home a bit early . Seemed a general consensus when we got to Avebury that we'd had quite enough paddling & floating for the day, so I led us off along the A4 back to Hungerford, where Andy (Beehill) carried on towards Newbury & beyond & me, Andy (flymo) Fern & Bob headed to mine for a warming brew. The irony that by the time they left the rain had stopped was not lost on us . Thoroughly enjoyed it this morning though - thanks for the company folks . Even enjoyed my comedy overtake, only to be confronted by the flooded road. Managed to lose enough speed to get through it but I'd liked to have seen the bow-wave I created . Nice evening last night too - with special thanks to BobH for being designated driver for the pub run. Was hoping to see you this morning Bob - but some sense obviously entered your head when you got up, it was threatening to be a very moist day after all .

Thanks for organising Martin.I'm sure on reflection I will have enjoyed it but just now pleased to be home.
I have to say the rain was torrential from Basingstoke back to Farnborough and the roads were worse than the mornings escapade. I'm quite amazed that I haven't had to changed out of my jeans - I was sure they were soaked but my suit (textile Alpine Stars) held up well.
Ta Andy

You're all mad. It's still canoe weather here. Spent an hour down the lockup lowering the 1250 (yes I had trouble getting both feet down) but had enough after that. Need to get a heater down there.

Nice evening last night too - with special thanks to BobH for being designated driver for the pub run. Was hoping to see you this morning Bob - but some sense obviously entered your head when you got up, it was threatening to be a very moist day after all . Only just missed you - the gap outside the café where the bikes had been parked hadn't been filled when I got there, with the church clock showing just after half-past. It took a bit longer than expected to finish off re-fitting the back wheel, which I'd aborted last evening when it got too dark. Then I thought I'd enough time in hand to top up at Mellor's - without that I'd have been with you. But in fact you did me a favour. Having made the effort to get the bike out I decided to go for a ~40-mile shakedown on the MT-03, which has been off the road for 3 months - that was quite enough for me. Also proved what I had suspected - that Oxford "Bone Dry" 3-finger gloves are anything but. Hope all got home safely.
