It will be gutless, I have seen a Enfield converted with the same engine, and it barely managed 50mph, vibrated like a road drill as well!

And was declared the slowest bike down the strip at Santa Pod, by Steve Berry who used to do such features on the old style Top Gear. On the other hand it's MPG was terrific.

I bought that and it's sat at the back of my garage waiting to be pulled apart and reworked:
+points: got a good yanmar clone motor and belt drive coupled to an ancient villiers gearbox. -points: needs a lot of bits and bobs pulled off and fettled.
A nice part finished project....

Wow! are you the brave one! Keep us posted on the re-build with plenty of pictures. Good luck with it. I've just started tearing it down. Fundamentally the drivetrain was built with close guidance from a dieselbike guru who is not far from me in somerset called Tim; alexfoti, the guy I bought it from appears to more of an electrical systems obsessive - there are various sensors and indicators, but most do not fit with the essence of a single cylinder derv motorcycle, so I will be junking much of it. The belt drive from the pto of the engine, to the clutch is exceptionally well engineered and is a little more sophisicated than the chain that many enfield-diesels use for primary drive (the vibration is isolated more effectively). Other add-ons (focused on running the bike on vegoil or used engine oil) are not so well executed, and will be thrown. I know it'll probably only do 55mph flat out (maybe more with propane fumigation), but the idea of 130mpg+ in a low tech configuration could be a real hoot. It sounds great on an open-pipe and runs pretty sweetly - that cam operated single fuel injector is so simple, yet elegent it's fantastic.

Sounds like a great project. Get a thread going on the resurrections and restorations board and keep us updated.

Good luck with this. I fancied the smart car diesel engine triumph as a sound commuter 110mph and 120mpg.
