Is the rest of the bike in a box somewhere? According to the ad the entire bike is there...previous owner stripped it to where it is.....
Looking forward to seeing this one take shape Mick....the XJ didn't last long on ebay eh...

Yeah I have two shed type things where the rest is stored (read as stuffed in) away till ready for it . Aye was just about to pull the add and not go through with it as well then I got the call. Actually miss the xj already but recon the tdm will sort that out. So after the day job including overtime (to buy shiny bits) then socialising with wife and kids I managed to put a few hours in and get the frame ready to take for blasting. Wheels to get done with swingarm at same time. OCD suffered look away now .......................... but here's the prize at the end

No its too rusted up being steel and I really couldn't be bothered staying on top off it to keep it shiney so it will be visiting the blasting cabinet soon ha ha

Just have it powder coated. A proper outfit will zinc passivate the bare metal and the oven heat kills any remaining moisture so those nasty hidden specks of rust won't come back.

If i had the cash I would love to but seeing as I have access to a shot blaster and endless tins of zg90 at work that's the route I will be going down. that will be followed by a top coat of anthracite paint and heavy duty lacquer on the visible bits but the inside of the frame will be the gone over with a coat of stone chip for a wee bit of extra protection. The cost of this rolls in at the grand total of £45 ..... that's frame, wheels and swing arm

I like ZG90 but it's not a tough paint and takes ages to dry. For what most industrial powder coater charge IMO it's not worth hassle of DIY even with "free" paint. Biggest bonus is powder coated steel stays rust free. I've not yet found a reliable paint for these jobs. Rust always come through.

frame blasted and the rust is gone , then given a coat of zg90 followed by a coat of black stone chip followed a couple of coats of steel wheel paint finally topped off with a couple of coats of polyurethane laquer. ... If the rust comes back then it deserves the win ha ha but the rust 2 as quite harsh leaving some rubbish looking pitting but after all painted up i will be doing bits of vinyl wrapping here and there so shouldnt see it wheels and swing arm got The same treatment , wheels all back together with their new bearings along with the sprocket carrier but waiting on the new disk bolts to arrive. New head stock bearings and races fitted and yokes on the frame and the frame on the engine again. got the forks stripped down and cleaned just waiting on new seals arriving and I will be able to get it rolling ( original rear shock very scabby but will go back on to get the bike mobile again ) Sorry for the lack of pics but was really focused and battering on

Gotta laugh or is cry my wee man was "helping" (four and half) and I hear "ting ting ting" turn round and he's hitting a 12 mm Allen key off the frame at a visible bit when all built up . Nice dings ..... thank goodness for vinyl lol

So .....
Got me a replacement shock for you rear a loverly hagon , set of goodridge braided hoses for the front and a new set of needle jets/emulsion tubes as this is one thing the tdm eats up (wears oval causing running rich). Set about it and getting there really quickly
All electrics back in , all cooling systems cleaned out back in and filled up, new oil and filter, rear sprocket on, new shock in, cleaned up painted and freed up calipers on the front (almost bled system, weird set up on hose to rh caliper then second hose from rh caliper to Lh caliper so bleeding taking a while) , stripped and cleaned carbs fitting new needle jets, also had rocker cover off checked valve clearances and all good.
New delkavic system on way and a new battery then I can get it fired up. Then it's loose ends and body work ..... may even get it on the road this year
