Im quite excited bout this now. Gonna get a few quotes for powdercoating the frame this week and make a list of what will be required and costs involved. The next couple of weeks will just be cleaning and painting. The rear shock is a concern as i dont have the money to replace it at the moment and the old bolt is still inside the top bit and will need fully drilled out.

Wee hint. Right side of swing arm tube where bearings are gets really rusty, left side of mine was pristine. My theory is that heat from drive shaft/engine dries out moisture, but right side stays wet/salty, ( where have I noticed that before ) On rebuild I lathered inside tube with underseal.

Can you bring the shock to anywhere with an hydraulic press? Never know, you might be lucky. Good job on the shiny bits! Is that stand really salvageable?

Forgot to add that there's a metal plate dividing the 'tube' inside, so the right side is separated from the left and they both have drain holes.

I still have the standard screen and my plan is to put purple flake on the inside with lacquer. This might look cool or tacky lol

I got my 900 divi of the internet .I know that it was a crazy thing to do but bought it without seeing it ,It had a full MOT so thought it couldent be to bad .boy was I wrong ,when it was delivered I had a shock,It had been green at one ,now it was red rust colour ,the rear suspension was rusted solid ,the front forks bent at an angle,My wife gave me instructions to fix it up rather than feel sorry for myself. After about 3 months work I now have the best bike that Ive ever owned , and an absolute joy to ride on fairly long distance camping trips.

Sounds good. Its always a risk buying without seeing first but these things happen ;D. Ive bought a few dodgy cars that way thanks to ebay lol Could you post some pics of the bike? I would like to see and im sure others on here would like to also.

Thanks Bevy for your reply Unfortunately the bike was so bad when I bought it I felt to embarassed to take any pics of it. Its not my intention to try and show off ,but after a bit of work the bike has come out quiet well and I feel pleased with the result ,and get a buzz when I think what looked like before. I will take some pics of it and try and download them if you would like to see them.

Nobody will think its a case of showing off its more of an inspiration thing to others. Its a shame you never took photos of before and after.

Totally agree - seeing what Bevy and others are doing inspires me to do some of what I'd like to do on mine - so am already researching and planning ahead to try and pluck up courage to attend to my swing arm and shock over the winter. Bit scary for me but at least I know where to come for advice when it's all in bits in my garage floor ;D

I hope you don't live anywhere near Wantage - you'll have a certain pretend-southerner knocking on your door for a go on that ...

Hi Samfan,
Looks good some nice bits on too. I like the engine bars and the Stainless steel brake disk bolts,
My disks are not coming off because the bolts are made of cheese! Do you still have the goldwing? Its cool, i dont like the newer ones that look a bit like a car lol

Hi Bevy. Yes I still have the Gold Wing the picy was taken yesterday morning . The centre stand on my bike was in the same condition as yours I cut two pieces of steal plate in a u shape and welded inside the stand It now feels rigid .Some of the bits seemed hard to find .such as the bar end covers and I wanted polished alloy exhaust flanges these had to be made in my workshop. You are right about the disc bolts ,needless to say my front ones sheered off resulting in another wheel.

Whatever turns you on. Personally I don't like it. Mind you It'd be a step towards getting in touch with your feminine side. I think we should go for all black, either that or black frame and bright red plastics.
