Hi, I'm about to wire up an alarm to mine and I need its wiring schematic or Haynes manual in PDF if anyone has it.
I've searched for it in the archives but cannot find it.
Cheers, Tony

Okey Dokey, try this one:- I don't know what the differences are (can't be ar$ed to compare the two, either) or if they are significant or not. I dare say one of the more knowledgeable forum members will be along in a minute to explain in detail exactly what changed in the electrics from 1997 on, and why you should always use a relay no matter what accessory you are adding, and preferably powder-coat it at the same time . . .

Alarms on bikes are the works of the devil. Expect some flat batteries, non starts and annoyed neighbours. Spend the money on a decent chain and ground anchor.

A simple alarm with manual arming is OK as you don't need to risk annoying the neighbours. Just switch it on when parked without a ground anchor. Many thieves (or so I am informed) will "knock" a bike to see if it is alarmed. If it is they will move on. so a basic vibration sensor alarm will do. No need to wire in the immobiliser part or you could fit a hidden bypass switch if worried.
The auto arming ones or the hugely complicated Thatcham ones can indeed be a nightmare. My bike came with a Datatool alarm fitted but I have removed it and will fit a Cyclone manual arming alarm instead.

MCN parked a bike and had it "stolen" by some blokes who lifted it into a white van complete with locks and chains. The alarm was blaring throughout but nobody batted an eyelid.

I make my own microcontroller alarms - they burn less than 5 uA on standby, battery dont even notice and will wake the dead + give em a headache when activated. Just use a vibration sensor, 3 minute sounding timer and monitor ignition state, as Rowlf says.
I is an elektronix genioss. PhD an all.
Also just fitted a new Lucas gel battery to it (£35 off ebay) and cant recommend it enough, btw. Getting ready for winter.
