Hi I'm Steve (44) from Leicestershire, passed my test on my Marauder GZ125 two weeks ago at and now have my first proper bike on it's way, have a 1997 XJ600 Diversion being delivered tomorrow and can't wait. Only downside is I can't ride her until I get her restricted to 33bhp due to only passing my 125 test, couldn't afford a direct access and as I had the Marauder decided to get my test sorted on that before the rule changes in January, at least I'll be able to ride the Diversion unrestricted in two years time Picked the Diversion after reading reviews on the net and thought it looked like the ideal BIG bike for me the start out on and looking forward to learning as much as I can about my new bike on here over time

You are a wise man - both for passing the 125 test before the rule changes and buying a D6. Both will serve you well as you embark on a life of biking. At least you won't have to take another test to get a bigger bike in the future. Restricted or otherwise, it's still a big bike that'll do a great deal - so don't feel disappointed. Once it's restricted, think of the D6 as a 1.6/2.0L car as opposed to a V8............ Power can be aspired to later; the greater comfort, stability, endurance and brakes are the main gain - that's the bonus of passing your test. Rgds, Neil PS. There's always somebody around that has restrictors for sale - what year is the bike?

Well done on getting the test done now . Ex-Leicester boy here, whereabouts are you? (I used to enjoy hooning about there, particularly around south Leicestershire, Tur Langton & thereabouts .)

Hi Steve,
I have a 1997 divvy and it's been a good first bike, like you I'm in my forties and only passed my test this year, however I was fortunate enough to be able to take the DAS route so my comments are based on an unrestricted model.
Mine is used mainly for commuting, a 50 mile round trip which it laps up, it's an excellent commuter/first big bike in my opinion, it will bimble along in traffic easily without being too fussy about being in the "right gear" and will cruise on the motorway comfortably. (Not sure how much the restriction kit would affect that side of things). I've done 4000 miles since buying it in May and it's only had a few minor niggles, the only major job I've done is to replace the chain and sprockets, which wasn't difficult I should add.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and welcome to the site.
Martin

Thanks for the warm welcome folks I'm actually in Hinckley but work in Cosby so hoping to use my 97 Divvy for the commute during the spring / summer / autumn. She's arrived this morning and the suns shining so it's a very good day indeed, can't wait to get her restricted now ;D

I bet mine would look like that if I cleaned it. Take care. What's this about using it spring/summer/autumn? Don't you work in winter? or . . . . or . . . . you're not a big girl's blouse are you?

Better watch out for that big blue loop through the wheels and frame - it might restrict vehicle motion somewhat.

I had one thike that - a 'kin good bike.
That single disc model benefits greatly from a 1/2" dia master cylinder. The standard one at 5/8" makes the brake feel on-off wooden. Braided hose and sintered pads are always worth having.
I cant remember for sure which bike provided the donor cylinder but may have been a Honda NVT 600.

She who must be obeyed is not keen on me riding at all let alone commuting in all seasons Will take the D6 out in the winter on those occasional sunny weekends though ;D
