I decided to fit new fork oilseals to-day for the first time. All went well until I removed the damper rod and dropped the plastic damper rod seal. This plain bush has one end counterboard and I dont know which way round this should be assembled on the damper rod when it is through the bottom of the fork tube. I think it should be countersunk end offered first on the damper rod-----am I correct?

It goes tapered-end upwards (IE, first onto the damper). Assuming you mean the little nylon jobbie that goes on the damper end.
