Riding south on the M11 intending to turn off at Loughton. However as I aproached Loughton I realised thas you can only enter the motorway in the south direction and leave the motorway in the north direction. Just passed Loughton I spotted a motorway maintenance turn off with a bridge over to the north side. I took the turn off, rode over the bridge to the north side. Unfortunatly a police car followed me over and stopped me on the north side. He said what I'd done was illegal and thretened me with 3 penalty points and a fine, after a chat he let me off and told me not to do it again. Was what I did illegal, and are the motorway maintenance turnoff's part of the highway? Anyone know?

You pulled in to where the Motorway Police Unit and maintenance crews are based. It is illegal to enter these, unless in an emergency of course or you have to be there. If you were on a Divvy you might have got your advice from the traffic sgt who rides a silver 900.
