Hi all, My name is Alex, I have been on this site once or twice in the past and have received great help!
Now I am slightly more mature I think its time to join up properly and tell my story
The XJ600 is the best bike!!! I have been riding for 6 years, Bought my XJ600s 1998 before I had my CBT, bought an Yam SR125 for 3 months, then did my full test, hopped on the Divi (also known as RAWA) and got my bumps and scrapes ;D
Of course being an XJ600 she carried on going and going!
In the 6 years of ownership Ive hit a BMW, been knocked off by an elderly driver, been driven into my rear by a van... and the best one .. been whacked by a hearse!!! If id have gone over the bonnett he would have just chucked me in the back!!
through all those knocks all I've ever replaced is a numberplate!
I bought her becuase my dad owned a 1996 XJ600s
She was bought with 14K on the clock for £1000 Immaculate from a technician (who unfortunately passed away before I bought it) Since then I have owned a Triumph Trident 900, A Triumph spring ST955I, A fireblade 929, a Fazer1000 2003, and most recently a Suzuki TLR1000 Which Last week I wrapped round a metal bollard!!!! Pictures will be posted.. but out of all those bikes I find the XJ the best! I use avon roadrider tyres (cheapys) Which I have been slated for, but I can scrape the engine bars round corners...
She now has 47k on the clock and still goes strong, I racked her up to about 42k with no services atall! all that ever failed was the starter motor.....!!!
so once she hit 42 I took her in for a massive service spent £600 on her, carbs balance, valves, shims, timing, cam chain, new pads all round and cleaning the callipers, K&N filter and much more, at the same time I took a visit to MTC exhausts who custom made me 2 stubby moto GP non legal cans (and got them to drill two holes for fake baffles ;D Then fitted renthal streetfighter bars which made a massive difference to riding position!
Also fitted stainless steel downpipes, as you all know the standard downpipes are made of cheese as are the nexus cans (I had previously)
I bought a full Givi rack and givi side boxes with a 56L (non givi) top box and me and the missus did Europe trip, France, Austria, Switzerland, germany, Belgium, and back into France. the whole trip the poor divi has a seizing back brake and still no Oil cooler as I removed it 3 years ago when she got a hairline crack! Apart from general overheating a few times and having to throw buckets of water on her at petrol stations!! We had a wicked trip!!
She also experienced something very strange, Almost entering austria, doing 80mph on the "freeway" she started to gargle, dropping off speed until we were crawling at 40mph in the hard shoulder, we came to a stop as the heavens opened, set up the tent and left her for 3 hours!
When we got back on, under load she would still gargle. F***ing great, B***ard bike ECT ECT was mentioned, we rode to a nearby town where we were thinking of getting repatriation cover back to UK. At which point I gave her a hand full of beans in anger! BWAPPPPP!P!P!P!P! she sprung back into life, COOL!!! So we carried on the journey...
Anywho, that was 1 and a half years ago, now shes started doing it again. Got the techs at Honda (where I work) to have a quick peek, instantly he said "its not firing on cylinder 2 or 3. OK I said, so process of elimination Its gotta be "spark plugs, HT caps, HT leads, or Coil packs (or worst case ECU)
So today I have finally changed the plugs, Oh dear... they were bad!
But still no joy, still gargles, so next on the list is Caps and Leads.
My question is "does anyone have caps and leads for sale for a 1998)?
So, LOL, thats my introduction to the site done, and 10/10 if anyone actually reads all of this!!
Thanks in advance all and a friendly Hi to all
