Hello everyone,
My name is Rod, also answer to Sox, and I'm seriously considering buying an XJ900. So I thought the best thing to do would be to join this club and see what the bikes are all about. I'll be looking over the message boards properly when I get back off my holidays (a week's camping in Tewkesbury) and, no doubt, asking lots of questions.
I live in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, at the moment I ride a Honda CX500 as my everyday transport and I'm in the process of rebuilding a CX500 Eurosport that I got at a price I couldn't turn down. I still like my CX and intend to keep it, but I want something with a bit more oomph and able to cope with lots of luggage for my camping trips.
I enjoy getting out on my bikes at weekends wherever possible so I hope to be able to meet up with some fellow members if and when I get myself sorted with a Diversion.

Hi! Welcome! I've got a 900 Divvy and am going camping next month on the bike so I can post some pics of my bike fully loaded with luggage if you like? I'm also going 2 up camping to the TT next year, so that should test the weight loadings!

Thanks for the welcome, a few pics fully loaded would be good.
I'm in Tewkesbury from this Saturday. I'd love to join the Welsh run but I think a Vauxhall Astra might look slightly out of place. I would have gone on the CX but it's a family trip and my 11 year-old son complained last time I tried squeezing him into the pannier. Besides, not sure the rest of the family would be too impressed if I left them to pitch the tent while I buggered off to Wales for the day.
If there are any runs being planned for Lancashire/Yorkshire or thereabouts I would be interested in going along to meet a few members and pick a few brains.

Welcome to the club - the 900's a great all-rounder which although a bit top heavy and a little weighty at times is a proper sized bike for what you've got in mind. It'll scratch, tour, be reliable and easy to maintain whilst being easy on the wallet. Although getting a bit long in the tooth, they still have a certain style and don't look too dated either. If you find a nice one, you'll be chuffed to bits with it and will be no doubt surprised at how well it seems to do everything you want to do on a bike.
Mmmm, I'd hate to put ideas in you head, but after 7 years of trouble free Divvy 900 ownership I moved onto something similar to what you own now....but with a bit more umph. ;D
Good luck finding a nice D9 - there's plenty out there to be had - if you can find one with some of the usual owner modifications done to it, it may save you a bit of cash. Any original spec one you may purchase will soon have parts added to it, I assure you.........
After market screen, heated grips, Givi wingrack, panniers, hugger, and crash bars are all things you'll probably end up having to budget for, so if they're fitted already, even better!

Hi Rod Just to welcome you to the Yamaha Diversion Club. I note that you are considering buying a 900 Divvi. I recently bought one and I am more than happy with it. The 900 certainly is a great all rounder with a surprising turn of speed when required! What amazes me with the 900 is its ability to cover large distances with ease. I certainly enjoy riding it .Try to pick one up with full luggage.I have certainly found this forum really useful. Other than that I would mirror the feedback from DahDit : " 900's a great all-rounder which although a bit top heavy and a little weighty at times is a proper sized bike for what you've got in mind. Hi mate, i am brand new to this forum but ive had my bike for 6 years, They are bullet proof like no other!!! and the 900 is meant to be more so!!!
covered about 30k with no real servicing!! didnt miss a beat
and you sure can chuck em around, and if they do fall over they get back up! not like these flimsy plastic sports bikes!

It looks like I have made the right choice of bike and club, I reckon I could fit in here. Anyway, off on my hols for a week soon and when I return I will be asking for some advice as I start my search for the right bike. I will also look out for any meets local to me and see if I can tag along.
