so i've had mine for about 2 weeks now, and was wondering what parts / servicing i should watch / do on a regular basis other that checking levels etc. quite new to bikes so any hints / tips would be very useful

Check the cam clearances and clean the air filter. The cams will go on for ever but there's a good chance they have never been done.
Dont remove the oil cooler pipes unless you have no other option. The lugs on the cooler crack very easily.
Grease the rear suspension bearings. 8 in total. get a close look at the frame around the rear shock top mount. Some bikes can be very rusty from stone chips.
Any steering wobbles, other than a flutter at about 40, usually means the head bearings are knotchy.
Change the brake fluid in both ends. If a brake is getting stiff strip and clean the seal groves before you end up needing new seals.
Blue spot brakes are better than standard but you need the full set including master cylinder.
