Always good to have, for when I inevitably drop a washer, nut, etc, and it falls in the corner. ;D Don't bother getting one from Halfords, usually find one for a quid at a market store.

Similar line, A flexible grabby thingy. Push thumb on the end to open grab, release to hold. I had one and made the mistake of lending it to someone. Very useful when you drop ya nuts in a tight place Anyone any idea where to get one of those? The magnet thingy i got from FOCUS do it all for about £1 when they were shutting down, but no sign of grabby thingy.

Someone must have stolen mineI must have misplaced mine ! When did I discover this? A few weeks back when I was changing the oil in the bike and as always the sump plug dropped into the oil drain can....... You know the type of drain can with an opening way too small to get yer fingers into. No problem I thought, I'll just get my magnetic telescopic thingy out and retrieve the sump plug ... errrm, no you won't. Then you have to drain all the dirty oil out to get at the sump plug. Normally I tip the old oil out into the can from which the new oil was poured into the engine from; but I can't fill the engine until I have the sump plug. A dilemna; no problem though, cue the washing up bowl (see, there ARE advantages to being single and living alone!!). Note to self; get a new magnetic telescopic thing (no; get 2) before the next oil change ;D.

Not so handy when the drain plug is monkey metal alloy.

I drain my oil into an old Celebrations tin, and then tip it into a screwtop drum for recycling. The sump plug is always there in the tin after draining. Every time. No expense.

Oh, and a funnel to transfer it into the old oil container. Can't beat a nice big washing up bowl for this - I've tried smaller receptacles (is that word OK on this site?) but the oil always seems to squirt out in an unexpected direction and miss the carefully-placed item. So in this case the size of your receptacle really does matter. ;D
