Have been thinking of making my xj900 a bit more modern looking with a pair of fairing mirrors .It would also make the handle bars a bit less clutered.Has anyone made made this mod to their bike. If so what mirrors did you use, and were they as good as bar mirrors?.

It has been done you will have to search the site though.
I seem to remember someone going back to bar mounted mirrors because of vibration.

I think the fairing mounted mirrors look much better, but the anti vibe bar mounts give me a clean view in the bar mounted mirrors so I'm keeping with the standard kit.
I have a little sucker mounted blind spot mirror on the fairing side. Its ok for spotting lane lurkers on the M-way but the image is next to useless for detail.

Here is a picture I found online of a Diversion with mirrors on fairing and on bars, I think this tells it all. I can imagine that there would be plenty of vibration of the mirrors mounted on the fairing. Attachments:

In the past, I fitted some Fazer 1000 mirrors to an XJ900 diversion, but I wouldn't recommend it.
The problem is, there is no strengthening built in so a plate has to be made to fit behind the fairing. In use, because the fairing is quite flexible, the rear vision is quite blurred and restricted.
The standard bar mounted mirrors actually work and I believe Trev fitted some good looking aftermarket bar mounted mirrors after his c0ck waving session.

Many thanks for the replies,It has given me something to think about with the vibration problem,If I do decide to fit them I would reinforce the area behind the fixing with a couple of layers of chopped strand mat to help spread the load and hopefuly stop any vibration, Both sets of mirrors would be kept on until Im sure that they are going to be a success, if not its easy to remove them and patch the fixing holes. The idea came up after seeing that almost all of the bikes with fairings at the bike show had fairing mounted mirrors on them, and that it could an improvement on a divi.

I recently fitted fairing mirrors to my D9. They do vibrate a little, but I did go for cheap mirrors from eBay, so maybe more expensive mirror would be better? The vibration isn't too bad and I am happy with the result. The bike looks much better IMHO. I much prefer the mirrors remaining still when turning the bars....more helpful when walking the bike backwards for example. I fitted mine with washers as spreaders on the back, but will probably upgrade this to a stainless or ali plate as I like them so much. In these pic I still have the angled parts of the original mirrors on the bars...these are gone now! You can get blanking plugs from ebay but they are a bit or a rip off at £12.50 delivered. I've left mine open, doesn't bother me! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIRROR-BLANKING-PLUGS-PAIR-YAMAHA-FZ1-FAZER-XJR-/270502898503?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3efb3aab47

Thanks Andy for the pictures It has suprised me how altering the mirrors can make such a big difference in improving the appearance and lines of the bike. As long as I can overcome the vibration issue ,it seems to me it should well worthwhile

hi there i fitted some R1 [ 40 quid a pair from my local spares shop ] mirrors onto my fairing , i dont find them any more susceptible to vibes than bar monted . although i have been looking at bar end mirrors [no pun intended ] as an extra safeguard cos i do a lot of motorway travel

A little £2 rubber sucker windscreen mirror on the fairing top is good enough to cover the motorway blind spot. But it will vibrate so tie it to a landyard.
