I know that at least the last owner had the bike serviced & maintained by a mechanic, rather than doing it himself. Think you can trust someone else with your bike? I'm a natural sceptic but even I was a bit surprised to see this, when checking the condition of the air filter : Current mileage is 50,000, current year 2011 . Someone those years ago did the sensible thing when they replaced it. Presumabley as a memory aid for themselves, not to catch out a mechanic. A good idea indeed!

Just remind me again...who had the bike last year? No idea - the chap I bought it off was selling it on Ebay. He said bought it from a dealer in June 2010 but don't know which one, or who had it before then. Why ..... did you think it was someone we know ? Are you confusing it with the VFR? Maybe you need a holiday .

That Divvy is going from bad to worse.. Divvy, as in Martin Good job you meant me . The D9 was faultless on the JR2011 run & is now in the hands of someone who actually bothers to check his bikes, as evidenced by the above photo' . This bike last had, by the mechanic's own definition, a 'full service' in August 2010 - costing the previous owner £568 (to include new down pipes). Labour was £250 of that so surely an air filter is a given on a 'full service' with that amount of labour charged . The (Andover) place's website says "Your number 1 choice for any job on a motorcycle, whatever it is" .

Didnt check it before Scotland though Limited time available, mate. Did the essential stuff like oil & filter change, checked tyres & cycle parts so nothing would drop off . ..... finding tenuous reasons to take the p out of me aside, is no one disgusted with what I found ?

..... finding tenuous reasons to take the p out of me aside, is no one disgusted with what I found ? Yes, after you mentioned that the bike recently had a full service that he paid rather a lot for..... I'm disgusted to know you've found where the air filter is and you think it needs changing. That VFR must have got to you - your standards are slipping ;D

Are you going to change the filter then, or simply amend the date

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to "professional" servicing.
Though I'm sure if you tackled the mech with this one he'd claim he blew it clean with an air line, which is possibly what the book says is acceptable.
BTW Martin, I may have a new(ish) filter if it's any use to you.

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to "professional" servicing. The Price surprises me I am having my bike serviced in the shop because I want to keep up the warranty. When I had my first 600 mile service done, the Yamaha dealer 'mechanic' put too much oil in requiring me to take some out and for the 'first free service' it cost me £65 (labour was free, I just had to pay for consumables) I will shortly be needing a 6000 mile service and the Yamaha dealer has quoted me £180 I will be taking it to the place near work which has looked after our company bike, they have quoted me £100, and i'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it's been done correctly and my warranty will be intact

I like easy sums. And having been raised by a father with Aspergers syndrome, I can't resist doing them.
£65.00 divided by 600 miles = 10.833 pence per mile (and that's the FREE service)
6000 miles minus 600 miles = 5400 miles
£180.00 divided by 5400=3.33 pence per mile.
Rich southerners.
Up 'ere we tend to barter with the village blacksmith - he does a 6000 mile service for 2 bowls of gruel and look at the magic "see the old man moving about picture" (or mirror, as some call it).

The bike runs considerably well despite the old air filter Martin. Dave To a point. But in 4th gear, nudging into the rev zone where a change to 5th is becoming desirable, it hesitates a bit. The replacement filter might sort that .

I confess I miss your contest with the rear hub. I followed it with a lot of enjoyment. When your big mate and the Newcastle Supporters Club failed to shift it I thought the nut had won! But you resorted to underhand tactics and cut it off! Shame
