Hi folks, Just registered as im in the process of looking at getting a diversion to do up and thought this would be the place to get some good quality help :) Going to look at an m plate with a knackered second gear and a 2000 which needs some tlc. Im quite a competent diy mechanic, had a few bikes but not had one for nearly a year so looking at getting a bike for commuting for getting back on the road :) any tips or advice appreciated, just going to go trawling as im sure 1001 people have already asked what i would...

Welcome stevie16v, Regardless of your diy compentency, I'd incline towards the 2000 bike if I was you. Twin discs & heavier forks up front, for a start off ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) . ........... though we all know a Flymo bloke who must have plenty of gearbox spares for older D6's, as he keeps blowing up engines ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) .

I hope it's a common fault with the rider and not the bikes lol At least i know i have a few options. I'm a bit torn, im really not wanting to spend much, but want to get reasonable value for money. Known problems are the 94 one is second gear knackered, the 2000 has a blow in the exhaust, a bit of rust here and there and been parked up for a couple of years so im imagining alot of stuff will be seized. I'll be able to make a better decision once i see them tho ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Sounds like the 2000 is the one Steve. Carbs will need a clean after 2 years. Bodge the exhaust seal until you can afford to replace.
The rest sounds like simple fettling. Clean up the no doubt stuck calipers etc.
