Hi all sorry if this topic has been done to death but I did a search through the forums but couldnt find a definitive answer, might have to change my commute to over a 100 miles a day mostly motorway and am wondering what is the longest lasting tyre for this kind of job.....what experience do other owners have and any recommendations would be good cheers

I had Avon Azzaros on. They were good. Lasted for ages. Don't know about the current tyres. Michelin are proving really good on the TDM.

Was chating with Finestian recently and he rates one of the Metzeler tyres for long life. Suggest you shoot off a PM!

I just fitted a set of the latest Bridgestones (BT23)
They're a triple compound & the rep reckons I'll easily see 15,000Ks out of them
Took 'em for a run last week & they stick like s@#t to a blanket even in the wet

Don't think you'll get 15K k out of them then Dave............. Whatever tyres handle worst of all will probably give you best mileage. It's the old trade off...... handling v longevity

My colleague at work does a 130 mile a day commute (London to Cambridge) and rides a Suzuki GSX650F. He was going through tyres every 6 weeks (he doesnt hang about) until he changed to Bridgestones BT023. They are not cheap but he got 13,000 from the rear until he picked up a puncture, there was still reasonable tread left! I'll be lucky to see half that mileage with my BT021s

I've been running Dunlop Arrowmax for the last few years & have been regularly getting a bit over 12,000 out of them (could be more but with the freeway running I have to do to get to work, the last ones had heaps everywhere except the middle)
- still a bit of meat there but when the wear marks appear I'd rather change them.
I rode the Bridgestones (in anger) yesterday, loved the grip &, if they fall drastically short of the wear mileage, there is one bike shop in town, I drink with the bloke & I can't see him recommending something something that won"t go the distance
('cause it'll come back & bite him on the a#se)
mind you, saw him yesterday in the pub for the first time since he whacked the tyres on, naturally told him they were crap, wanted my money back etc & had to relent when he looked like crying

I Mean, that'll last some weekend warriors for the life of the bike.. and wouldn't do the tyre manufacturers much good, i mean, doubling milage = less tyres sold Have recently fitted a 023 to the fazer rear, so will be interesting after scotland.. last 021 did 5000

Find some ancient Mcadams they will scare the bejesus out of you, you will slow down and they will last forever. I used to get 12k off the back and over 15k on the front. They are not good for corners the wet or strong winds but for motorway they are fine.

I beg to differ the Macadams on my 600 were horrible on the M-Way and downright dangerous on other roads. I went slowly (no choice) but front lasted 4000 because it was sliding on every corner. The back lasted 10,000 and got rid because I couldn't stand it any longer. BT45s suited the bike.

Wellerman
I commute 110 miles a day on my D9 on the M1 and have done for the past 8 years.
I have tried just about most tyres:
road attack front and rear - (don't last long , rear squares of terribly! BT20s and 21s - hard wearing but hard on the hands. Metzlers - like putty.
I am currently on my 2nd pair of Maxxis Supermaxx Touring tyres (bought from DK online at £134 delivered) I recon I can get about between 8,000 to 10,000+ miles out of the rear before it squares off. They are good all round tyres and stick in wet or dry.
No matter which tyre you fit the back will square off and you will more than likely wanting to change it, before the tread depth goes too low, as the ride will suffer on the old vibration scale when you ride on straight roads with a square tyre.
The same with the front tyre too - I tend to change the tyres as a pair but the front, although having sometimes more than half the tread left, I change because the ride suffers somewhat.
Good luck.

Anyone tried Michelin Road Pilot 2's? Yep, had both the 2's and the 3's on the Busa. Got about 7k on the 2's and expect to get about the same on the 3's...... However, the handling on the front starts to go about 5k. Still grips and does all the usual stuff, but it starts to 'pull' into corners rather than being neutral.
