In February, for the 1st time since returning to biking 6 years ago, one of my bikes goes for a 'big' service at a shop. (An independant motorcyle workshop - not a franchise dealer.)
On getting the bike back, I hear the words "the oil filter was a bit loose" & I reply "was it leaking at all". "No" is the response. "So it wasn't too loose then?" sez I. "Yes, it was too loose" sez he. "Uh, OK" sez I & I depart.
This niggled me over time, as I worry that the mech has put the replacement filter on too tight. After a month's use, I decide to check. Yep - it's on really tight! I decide to back it off a bit, to ensure it's easily removed when the next change is done.
What do I find? Only that the mech has fitted the new filter but didn't check that the old filter's rubber seal came off with the old filter. It hadn't, & it was still in there.

Makes you feel better when the professionals are incompetent too You're probably being too hard on yourself Beebs . ............... actually I'm waiting for Fiasco to tell me I should have gone to Gt Kimble instead . He would, of course, be quite right. But I doubt he'll try to rub my nose in it .

I always fit the oil filter hand tight and have never (yet) had one come loose.
