I need to replace the rear on my Fazer & naturally I'm inclined to put a Diablo Sport on it again. But ...
My last two Sports have only seen 3000 miles apiece, and were both very stuffed at the end of that, & the Strada is supposed to last a little longer. So has anyone been using the Strada instead, having used the Sport beforehand? I wonder the following:
1. Did you get better mileage from the Strada? 2. Did you feel that the grip was a lot less, a bit less, or you didn't really notice a loss at all?
Ta,
Martin.

Dunno about the strada, but the Metzeler Z6 is essentiallly the same tyre with a different tread pattern.Jools has them on her ZX6, and the grip is enough for most mortals to ever need.Mileage-wise, the rear probably has about 2k miles on it and has at least twice that left.Obviously a fazer thou will be heavier on tyres than a baby ninja, but you should see a decent increase in mileage. I'm seriously thinking of changing to Avon Storms cos the Vipers I fitted at the end of August are worn out

(Are Metz & Pirellis made in the same place?) Well the Z6 and Diablos are apparently - according to just about every forum you go on. Glad to see you're finally considering putting something stronger then Durex around your rim ;D

Case of having to, it was proving bliddy expensive, not to say bliddy worrying for Chris, when he kept getting all those punctures

The dunlop 208RR's I have on the Fazer are great and fairly cheap (offers about) and seem to be wearing well.

I am trying BT020's on the Fazer, probably not as much grip as the Diablo's from the front end but a lot cheaper.

You'll want to change them before their worn out especially the front they wobble on white lines\joints or any unevenness in the road and the front will get twitchy in the wet. Horrible tyres on a Fazer I have a less than 1/2 worn front in my garage to prove it. Neil

I am trying BT020's on the Fazer, probably not as much grip as the Diablo's from the front end but a lot cheaper. They are about the same price from roundandblack (the 020's are £2 cheaper, for a front 'n back pair deal. £4 different if you only buy a rear). Roundandblack also sell the 021 at the same price as the 020 . .......... given no feedback on the difference between the Diablo Strada & the Diablo Sport, I've just invested in a new pair of Sports, as I know I love 'em .

Good move Martin - I can't believe there is a better tyre for the Fazer Dave Maybe so, but I bet there's a better bike than the Fazer for the Diablos ;D Oh and when the time comes and before I get the phone call my sweet prince ;D, you'll be able to get Diablo Stradas for the TDM - or mix Strada front, Sport rear. Or stick Z6s on (never tried any of them myself)

I have, though, just bought a lightly-used Avon storm rear tyre from ebay - the Vipers just don't last long enough for a pauper like me.Will have to see how they go through the winter - reports on the ZX9 forum seem to be good (some are getting 5500 miles from them !)

You're prob quite right, GM, about the Z6's being as good / maybe better. But they are dearer so I would hope so . ......... still keen to hear of comparisons between the Strada & Sports, if anyone has used both. It's a bit of extra life I'm looking for, without comprising much or any grip. Not much to ask for, then ;D.

New Diablo ready to go on the bike: I'll finish fitting it after a couple of domestic chores . (Domestic chore1: Collecting summat from Newbury which I forgot to collect on Friday, when I was in Newbury .) I must admit I'm looking forward to getting it scrubbed in & ready, after the Azzaro I've been using for a while (since the Yorkie run, cheers Speighty - do you want it back, about 1500 miles less on it now that when fitted ) ?.

Time to update this thread, I reckon. Since last posting, I've seen off that new rear plus one more Sport, then fitted a Strada just to see. I have to say the Strada is very poor by comparison - especially so in the wet, where it's absolute rubbish in my opinion . <qualification> On the VFR it was fine - so it 'might' be my heavy hand on the throttle, on the Fazer . <qualification ends>Lasts forever though - more's the pity as I want it gone . Next I'll be trying the Angel ST on the rear - just fitted one of them to the front, currently ZERO miles on it, so I'm hoping for great things from it once run in a bit .

Martin - I know you're a Pirelli fan, but I think the tyre to have now if you want long life as well as good wet grip is the Dunlop Roadsmart. They never gave me a moment's worry during downpours on slick Belgian motorways and greasy surfaces in Germany (including the dreaded Ring) a couple of weeks ago. That's on the Fazer 6, mind you, so a bit less grunt than your Thou.
They also seem to be about the most expensive tyres around, apart from the new Bridgestone BT23's, that is.
Also see article in December's Bike mag (the issue before the one that's just appeared) where they compare the Roadsmart to the new Sportsmart.
I have a part-used 180/55x17 Roadsmart in the shed, which I took off my Fazer before I went to the congtinong because I wasn't sure it would last the 1500 miles or so (it's probably got another 2000 left, but better safe than stranded at the side of the road). You're welcome to try it.

Martin - I know you're a Pirelli fan ... I'm not, as such. I love the Diablo Sports though. The Angel came recommended, so we'll see . I have a part-used 180/55x17 Roadsmart in the shed .... You're welcome to try it. Most kind . I think I'll go for the Angel on the back though, see how they work as a pair. Just ordered a set of Maxxis for the GPz . The Sport ones? BTW, just read your txt message. I guess you made it home then, which means you didn't park up in Didcot !

just put a bridgestone 023? the newest one available, well just being a while ago, done about 600 miles on it, seems ok. was using teh 021, that was good, but this one only lasted 4500 miles ! usually expect 6000, so must had been a bit heavy wristed on the last one,

I think they are the supermaxx touring ones (M6029) The sport ones aren't great in damp weather with slimy roads - I had a few moments on the way to work this morning via the country lanes of Buckinghamshire. Brilliant tyres in the dry, though

If I am not mistaken, sport tyres usually require some heat before they are 100% effective.
