Rear brake pedal - is it steel or alloy?

I am fairly certain it is alloy but mine had been painted silver and was a bit rusty/tarnished. I've removed the pedal and cleaned of the old bit and rust but do I need to paint? If its alloy it should be okay but if its steel it will have to be painted.....

Can anyone else give an opinion if its steel or alloy?

It's steel, zinc plated.
