ok so i got home today and just as i left the bike i noticed a patch of oil on the bottom of the fins to cylinders 1 and 2. there dosent seem to be a leak as such as there havent been any puddle as far as i can remember its just a bit mottled to the fins. Does anyone know where this might have come from or what might have caused it? cylinders 3 and 4 are clean as a whistle. Ive also noticed a slight clicking noise on idle which speeds up when i rev or move off??

If its the top ? weeping rocker cover ? Run a cloth round the seal to check. If it is check oil level not too high. Take off cover clean an retighten.

i had this and on mine it was the oil cooler leaking and spraying it back if this is the case dont ride it till you source another one coz if the oils coming out it aint reaching the crank. on mine the crack was on the part where the banjo bolt goes in not the washer the body was cracked turn out to be a big ouch from yamaha to buy new one.

This is a known problem on both 600 and 900.
The oil cooler has to be removed for some maintenance jobs, like checking valve clearances. If you (or whoever last fitted the oil pipes) isn't very careful to hold the hexagonal boss on the oil cooler when undoing or re-tightening the banjo bolt it will come away from the body of the oil cooler and leak at the joint. I've not heard of anyone managing to do a successful repair.
As Ratty says, a new oil cooler is pricey, and they hardly ever come up secondhand.
Good luck - Bob

Dont bother trying a used Divvie oil cooler there's a good chance its also going to leak. See what you can find from a radiator specialist. Otherwise remove the cooler connecter block from behind the filter. The cooler is not fitted on all 600s but they all run the same.
Yesterday, my 900 oil cooler wasn't leaking but as every little fin (the folded foil ones) has either folded over or fallen out, I cant imagine its doing much. The engine never seems to get over-hot.
