Can anyone tell me how to remove the Ignition barrel from the top yoke. I have remove the original as it was in appalling condition. I ordered a new one and it came fixed to a top yoke. Where, on my bike, two allen bolts go in to fix it to the yoke there appear to be two bolts with no place to fit in any type of tool. There are just two conical shaped prominences in the wells. I couldn't see this information anywhere else so have started the new thread. I am brand new to bikes and their maintenance and have started with a complete dud of a bike in order to learn my way around. If anyone has any tips on where to grab parts please feel free to send them. My bike is an M Reg XJ600S and is basically going to be rebuilt from the ground up. The Brakes are completely seized, the fairings are all busted, there is rust everywhere. The forks are shot, and I have already had to overhaul the fuel system just to see if it would run at all. To make matters worse another wannabe mechanic has had it to pieces and rebuilt it with a multitude of random bolts and fixings, and failed to replace some fixings at all. The Sprocket Cover is being held on by the Gear Linkage!!

I think what you are seeing are 'shear' bolts. Pretty sure they'll need drilling out. Take the top yoke off, so you can work on it more easily - got a vice to hold it steady? Get a nice sharp drill - tungsten carbide I would reckon. If you have a centre punch, use it to mark a starting point or the drill will slide off. Better still - just swap the new one & it's top yoke as a complete unit .

The Connector is way past it's sell by date. Does anyoneknow where I can get hold of one. It's a white 4way connector. I would lke to replace the whole thing, male and female ends as they're both quite perished.

Hi all where do i get replacement shear bolts from or can they be replaced with locking nuts and bolts? Had a replacement barrel after sum ejit attempted to jimmy the bike. Another yamaha site wasn't much use so have come to try my luck with a more specialised group.

Use hex socket screws. If really bothered about the fake security the shear bolts provide, fill the socket with body filler or knock in a ball bearing for a permanent never remove again job.
